Guest guest
Hi Anne I have PA and have had shoulder pain for a few years, all the things you say you have problems with I do too, had to buy a front fastening bra, got lots of problems putting on clothes, can`t lie on that shoulder either, it got really bad recently so instead of normal shoulder xray which had never shown anything,I was sent for an ultrasound xray. The results of the scan showed that I have shoulder impingement, for which I was given a cortizone injection and am waiting for a shoulder decompression surgery, waiting list about 50 weeks. the Ultrasound technician said that my tendon in my shoulder is swollen and is having bother getting through the space in my shoulder. When I asked my doctor about it she agreed that the PA had probably caused the swelling. I have got quite a lot of problems with various tendons around my body, achilles tendons being one of them. As far as I know this is one of the things PA attacks. I think that you should try and get this checked out as soon as you can, It isn`t much fun is it? Guest guest
Hi Anne, I'm not have much trouble with my bra,( :-) ) but I can't lift my left elbow above my shoulder without a lot of pain and can not put it behind my back. The right shoulder is starting to hurt also. The left one has been getting worse for the last 2 years. My Rheumy seems to think is from the my PA. It is one of the things I am working on when I go to physical therapy and hydrotherapy. The day I go it hurts and by the next day it is a little better, but by the next time I go it is hurting again. The best thing for my shoulder has been when I get into our hot tub, but then again it seems to help all my joints. Wish I could tell ya more, but that's all I know. Good luck with your shoulder. Thanks, Anne Hi Anne, I am not too bad at the moment but in the past I have had that problem. I describe it as feeling as if there is a knife stuck in under my right shoulder blade. (Not that I've ever had a knife stuck in there to know what that feels like. lol Oh and I had better say that I don't wear a bra either so I'm ok there. lol) Hopefully if the rest of your joints were to improve, that would too, at least I hope that is the case for you. I had 2 cortisone injections and PT, but the problem recurred. An MRI revealed a torn rotator cuff. I had surgery Feb 10th and am now rehabbing. I also have the knife under the shoulder blade pain and it is aggravated when I turn my head. The orthopedist said this is unrelated to the rotator cuff, most likely related to my PA. My range of motion has improved greatly and the pain and stiffness is reduced now to a regular dull ache which may also be arthritis related. It is not present 100% of the time. I'm happy I had the surgery. My quality of life has greatly improved. good luck. Mo

Guest guest
Hi all, My right shoulder really hurts between my scapula and clavicle. Heat helps some, as does ice. Today I put a WellPatch for pain on which is just menthol. It seems to have made the pain worse. That seems odd since menthol is in other patches and creams. My pain meds are Ultram and Darvocet N. Do rheums give steroid shots in that part of the shoulder? Several years ago my pcp gave me one there. thanks, Debbie L fibro, OA, DDD
Guest guest
Debbie, I don't know about rheumatologist giving shots in the shoulder but I know orthopedics do. My left shoulder froze on me about 10 years ago and he gave me a shot of prednisone and I haven't had any problems since except tenderness from RA. But I have that in most all my joints. My biggest pain is in my lower back. It doesn't seem as though they can do much for that except give you pain pills. I don't think they want to find a cure for RA because they are making to much money. I would have to go to Dallas to see a rheumy so I go to a DO that has his office less than a mile away. Guest guest
Hi Joyce, Thanks for your response. My rheum has given me shots in rotator cuff tendons a few times. Monday I will call him about this. I go to Austin to see him. If my shoulder pain is anything like your RA pain, I can very much sympathize with you! This is such a great group and I stay here because of my fibro and joint problems. hugs, Debbie L --- In , " Joyce McCrary " <j.mccrary@...> wrote: > > Debbie, > > I don't know about rheumatologist giving shots in the shoulder but > I know orthopedics do. Guest guest
Since I also have diabetes, and diabetics are prone to get frozen shoulders, my rheumy at first said that's what I had. But people usually don't have both shoulders frozen at once. He sent me to physical therapy, and I was supposed to do exercises to help it. It would say things to do with your good arm. I didn't have a good arm! Moving an arm in any direction was agony. My hands were all swollen up, too, and I couldn't make a fist. He said that was " diabetic limited joint mobility syndrome. " He was a wonderful rheumy, but even wonderful ones can be wrong, too. I got the referral to him from my endocrinologist, so I think he had diabetes on his mind because of that. Guest guest
Hi! I have 24/7 pain in both of my shoulders - some is because of RA - some is because of nerve damage (I've dislocated both shldrs a total of 6x, broke one shldr 1x & have pins in one!!)...I currently take 60mg Cymbalta for nerve pain and it works wonderful. Yes - it's an anti-depressant but it's also been proven to help nerve pain. I have been told that it can do wonders for diabetics....might want to at least ask about it - never hurts! But when I have pain associated w/ RA - thermacare heat pads + pain pills are the only 2 things that help me. Sometimes they hurt so bad that my fingers and hands go slightly numb. It sure isn't fun - my heart goes out to you - I definitely understand though! Guest guest
Stan, as far as I know, diabetes doesn't cause swelling like that. It can cause neuropathy in the feet and hands, but that is tingling or lack of feeling. Is it just the one leg, or both? If both, I do know that retaining fluid can cause sweilling. I don't know if she's been diagnosed with diabetes or not, but if not, it wouldn't hurt to ask for an A1c blood test. I'm going away for a week, leaving tomorrow, so I hope can help you. Guest guest
I'm a clutz....i.e. first time - I had high heels on and slipped on a wet slate patio during a hard rain - fell backwards, catching myself. That time was a bilateral dislocation. After that - once you have done it once, the shoulders pop out much easier. - Honestly, all of that has happened over a 10 yr span. Although, I really love the bull riding explanation - I could use that and it sure would sound more colorful!! hehehehe! I'm still giggling over that! ltdavis_jrdavis@...
