Guest guest
Hi : What is the doseage you are on of the Mtx? I am taking now 12.5 mg., but was up to 20 mg. at one point. I think you can go as far up as 25 mg. For me, adding Enbrel to the Mtx was the ticket to better control of my RA. Perhaps, if the Mtx does not help you alone, another med can be added to it? For the Mtx when I was on it alone, it took about two months for me to begin to feel any benefit, so patience is something we have to learn to live with, unfortunately, especially hard when we are in pain and just want it to get better. I think at the point you are at, depending on the doseage you are on, it might be that your doctor will either increase the Mtx or add another med to it. He could also change it entirely to something new if he does not think the Mtx is helping at all. Call your doctor and let him know about what is happening, and that you are having more pain. Let us know what he says - best of luck to you - Kathe in CA --- natsmom823 <natsmom823@...> wrote: > Hi all, > I have a question about how long it takes before I > start seeing > results with methotrexate. > > I have been taking the oral mtx for 7 weeks > (tomorrow will be week 8). > Now that I have ramped up the folic acid, I don't > get really bad side > effects, just the brain fog and hangover that comes > the next day. > > But I was up most of the night with a lot of pain in > my wrists, and > now I am having pain in my knees ankles and feet. > It is so bad that I > can't even bathe my 20 month old, I am afraid of > dropping her. > > I am also on Relafen. > > I thought I would start feeling a little better by > now, but my pain > seems to be the same or worse and is moving around > now, before it was > just in my wrists primarily. Guest guest
Hi Kathe, Happy Friday! I am on a very low dose of mtx, 7.5 mg. Thank you for the information and positive reinforcement. I will try to be patient, I see the rheumy a week from Monday. > > > Hi all, > > I have a question about how long it takes before I > > start seeing > > results with methotrexate. > > > > I have been taking the oral mtx for 7 weeks > > (tomorrow will be week 8). > > Now that I have ramped up the folic acid, I don't > > get really bad side > > effects, just the brain fog and hangover that comes > > the next day. > > > > But I was up most of the night with a lot of pain in > > my wrists, and > > now I am having pain in my knees ankles and feet. > > It is so bad that I > > can't even bathe my 20 month old, I am afraid of > > dropping her. > > > > I am also on Relafen. > > > > I thought I would start feeling a little better by > > now, but my pain > > seems to be the same or worse and is moving around > > now, before it was > > just in my wrists primarily. Guest guest
You are on a very tiny dose. Call the rheumy and ask about increasing it--don't wait until the visit. The sooner you get things working well, the better. Guest guest
Hi : Happy Friday to you too! Yes, you are on a very low dose of Mtx, it may be possible that all your doctor will need to do is increase the Mtx a bit, and you could get some better response to it. Think positive -that may be all that you need! Keeping my fingers crossed! Kathe in CA Kathe " To ride a horse is to borrow freedom.
