Debbie, I have lived in Texas all my life except for the short time my

husband was in the navy. You live around my old stomping grounds

when I was a kid. I lived in Austin in the 30's and 40's. I loved it

down there. I live in Italy which is 15 miles from Waxahachie in

Ellis County. When I was a kid we use to drive through Round Rock

to go see my Grandparents that lived in on County. The heat

in Texas is harder on me now than it was before I got old, old, old.

I have Hypothyroidism and I can't take the heat anymore.

Hi Joyce,

I live in Round Rock which is just north Austin. It's going to be in

the triple digits here, too. What town near Dallas do you live in?

It's nice to know there are other Texans in this group!

Bedford, Texas here. Very hot! Thank goodness I put in a window

unit, poor air condition cannot handle the additional needs. Cassy

Yes, good to see all the Texans, but does it ever make you wonder if all the

plants, refineries and toxic waste dumps in Texas might have something to do

with the fact that there are so many of us from Texas on this list? Also why we

have some of the best cancer centers in the world - it's easy to do research

when you have such a great test pool!

But I still love Texas - it's my home and the people here are great! Hope all

of you are having a blessed and pain free day!

I certainly don't want Dubya back in Texas. He's not a true Texan. He was

born up north somewhere. If I said what I think about him, you'll would

kick

me off the list. So I will keep my big mouth shut.

Hi , Joyce, Cassy and all,

I really love it here in Texas, too. I moved to Austin in 1987 and

haven't wanted to move anywhere else even though my family doesn't

Hi Fellow Texans,

Been busy recently and just saw these posting and wanted to

say " Howdy. " I reside in Humble, ten minutes from Bush

Intercontinental Airport. I'm very close to Houston, but only drive

around this area.

Take care everyone and hope to get to know everyone better as I'm very

new to this group.

When I was stationed at AFB in the 60's, I would go to Beaumont on

weekends to visit my family. If I remember the number right, I got off 90 at

Katy and took 1960 around Houston. There at Humble was a blinking caution

light where we crossed a major highway. We went through there a few years

ago and nothing is the same. It used to be forest and wild animals, but now

it's grass and concrete and houses, but there are worse 'animals' there now.

I live in North West FL, almost in AL. The weather reports here often 10

degrees or more difference in places 40 miles or so. Even 15 miles makes of a

few degrees.

Debbie, I wouldn't trade my memories of Austin. I lived in Austin until I

was

13 years old. We lived on Holly Street, Riverside, South Annie and 4th

Street. My best memories were when we lived on 4th Street. We could

sit on our front porch and listen for the circuses and carnivals that came

to Austin. We lived across the street from a huge empty lot where Austin

had their circuses and carnivals. I especially loved the circuses. The

train would come in and they unloaded the elephants, lions and tigers

on Congress Avenue. Of course they left the cats in their cages but the

elephants walked from Congress Avenue to the empty lot with their trainers.

They always let the highschool band play in front of the elephants. You

could hear the the elephants and cats roaring as they walked down the

street. After the animals got off the train they walked south on Congress

to

1st street. They walked east on 1st Street then down to 4th street where

we lived. My oldest brother and I would go across the street and watch the

elephants help put up the big tents. I never went to a circus untill I was

in

my 40's. I didn't have too. My fondest memories were and still is in

Austin.

Enough of my reminiscing.

HI Joyce,

Thanks for sharing your memories of Austin. Since I moved it has

changed so much. You probably won't recognize downtown now. Right

now they are building a toll road near us along Louis Henna in Round

Rock. Dell computer is our neighbor. It's ok to email at home if you

want to share things.
