Guest guest
I've had a lot of drama surrounding my diagnosis lately and to be honest I don't really understand this because every single person has their own interpretation of it is and what should be done about it. I just wanted to know if anyone finds that doing light work on weight machines helps or if they prefer water aerobics. Does heat or cold help you better with pain? Is it possible to be in pain that takes you to your knees on Monday, Tuesday feel perfectly fine and not need one pill whatsoever but Wednesday feel worse than you did Monday? Do you try to stay away from Narcotic pain relievers? Or do you feel they are necessary for your pain on bad days? Does chiropractic care help at all? It doesn't have to be your experience. I just want to know of anyone because I'm curious. I understand everyone is different. I'm just reaching out for ideas and answers that might " help " I'm taking a break from looking fdor a miracle cure for a while :/ Annie
Guest guest
Hi Annie. I prefer water aerobics and heat. My perfect day is to swim in the morning, which gets rid of the morning stiffness, and go in the hot tub before bed. This has allowed me to reduce my medication. I don't find narcotics help with fibro pain, but I take them for RA pain. I've found exercise helps the most with the FM pain. I also take muscle relaxers when I'm having a fibro flare. These fibro flares are what makes me feel really bad one day and not so bad the next. a On Aug 11, 2006, at 3:54 PM, Annie wrote: > I've had a lot of drama surrounding my diagnosis lately and to be > honest I don't really understand this because every single person > has their own interpretation of it is and what should be done about > it. > > I just wanted to know if anyone finds that doing light work on > weight machines helps or if they prefer water aerobics. > > Does heat or cold help you better with pain? > > Is it possible to be in pain that takes you to your knees on Monday, > Tuesday feel perfectly fine and not need one pill whatsoever but > Wednesday feel worse than you did Monday? > > Do you try to stay away from Narcotic pain relievers? Guest guest
Annie, Hope I can be of some help to you, but I have not dealt with the fibromyalgia issues for very long. However, pain is something I have dealt with for quite a while. I used to use Vicodin (a narcotic) until my rheumotologist switched me to Ultram. It works the same way in the brain as the other one, but it not addictive and I find it works just as well without the groggy feeling. For me heat works the best to help relieve my pain. I also have found that ICY HOY applied to the painful areas can really help me, especially at night. Ice, however, will relieve swelling and inflamation so I do occasionally use that for short periods of time and it does take away that kind of pain. You might just have to experiment around to find out exactly what works for you. Pain can vary a lot from one day to the next and can move from one body to another. I find that weather changes dramatically affect my pain levels as well as the humitidy levels. Also, activity levels can affect my pain levels or the type of activity I have done. Yesterday I went grocery shopping and haven't done that in a long time. Although I used the cart I could drive around the store I still had to lift things into the cart, place everything on the conveyor belt, load and unload my car, and put them all away when I got home. This put a lot of stress and strain on the back and hands with pain levels increased in those areas. I do use chiropractic care and find that it helps, but try to go when pain levels are low as she is able to do more adjustments then. It particularly helps to keep headaches less frequent and also helps my back. I hope this helps and that you have a good weekend. > > I've had a lot of drama surrounding my diagnosis lately and to be > honest I don't really understand this because every single person > has their own interpretation of it is and what should be done about > it. Guest guest
-HI Annie, In response to your question about narcotics and pain relief. I take major narcotics on a daily basis...but try and keep it to a moderate amount. I will not raise the amount that I am on unless I am on my knees with unrelieved pain. But my pain comes from 5 different sources..Ra/Fibro/DDD/radicular neuropathy/and severe osteoporosis-- The unGodly pain that brings me to my knees is either the radicualr pain which goes down my right leg into my foot, or the osteoporosis pain...which is a severe aching of my pelivic bones, and my lower back vertebrae. (not the fibro/RA)...for fibro and RA I find that the narcotics don't usually touch them. I don't know the reason why....I just know that if I take extra narcotics (which I am allowed to for breakthrough pain) it will do nothing for my knees or wrists or fingers. They still hurt like I had taken nothing. NOw if I take a vicodin...that will help the Fibro/RA pain....but I have to make a choice as to which pain med to take...and I can't take enough Vocdin to help the other pain without going over the suggested limits for Tylenol...my liver would not last long with toxic amount of tylenol every day. So I take the MS Contin which is long actig morphine for the worst of the pain....and try and deal with the rest. Which means that I am always in pain...but you have to set a limit as to what YOU are willing to tolerate vs being zoned out on meds all the time. I want the edge taken off of the worst pain....and be able to remember what day it is ...if th fibro fog lets me!.I do take muscle relaxants daily for the fibro pain...hope this helps you......jenna > > On Aug 11, 2006, at 3:54 PM, Annie wrote: > > > I've had a lot of drama surrounding my diagnosis lately and to be > > honest I don't really understand this because every single person > > has their own interpretation of it is and what should be done about > > it. > > > >> > > > Do you try to stay away from Narcotic pain relievers? Guest guest
Thanks so much, I really have a hard time with the whole issue of pain relievers. Vicodin does nothing but make me sweat and act like my one year old daughter. As much fun as she is, I'm 26 and not sure that strangers want to see that. I take Ultram for moderate pain and can do ok anything more than that and I just have to go to bed and sleep it off. I do my best to cope. So far it's not working but I'm trying my best. Thanks for the support. Annie > > -HI Annie, > In response to your question about narcotics and pain relief. I take > major narcotics on a daily basis...but try and keep it to a moderate > amount.
