Guest guest
I had 2 major and 1 minor surgery 1 and 1/2 mos prior to having an explosive onset of RA. ( one of the surgerie's was gastric bypass so I was in the process of losing alot of weight during the time.. along with some major life stressors, mother passed away and son was in Iraq) I think stress both physical and mental has alot to do with developing autoimmune problems. > > About 3 years ago (before I came down with RA) I got a really bad staff > infection in my arm from a cut I received at work. Guest guest
Carol, I developed Polymyalgia Rheumatica not long after a major auto accident. Both my PCP and my Rheumy are convinced that it was the trigger. How difficult for your neighbor! I thought it was bad when I couldn't hold my newborn grandchildren, or get down on the floor to play with them when they were a little older, but I can't imagine not being able to hold and care for your own baby. Now that my girls are older, I'm doing better and, at 19 months, they've found ways to cope! Beside the usual crawling up in my lap for a story, they discovered that they can " help " me walk by moving my cane for me! It's so sweet. Guest guest
I was diagnosed with RA about 2 1/2 years after I had my son. When I first got sick, I had really bad strep throat that wouldn't clear with the normal antibiotics. I was on major antibiotics for awhile to clear up the strep. At first they told me all the joint pain, swelling and etc was a viral arthritis that was very typical for someone my age to get after having a child. After I was weaned off all the medication ( and the strep had cleared) was when I had another " flare-up " and I was finally diagnosed with RA. I had heart surgery as a child and was sick a lot so I don't know if that had anything to do with me getting it at a younger age or not... My mom thinks that I may have always had RA just possibly wasn't chronic since I had symptoms of it my whole life... > > About 3 years ago (before I came down with RA) I got a really bad staff > infection in my arm from a cut I received at work. Guest guest
Hello, ladies. Forgive me for jumping into the middle of your conversation, but I would like to add that my onset of RA/Fibro also seemed to come at a stressful time of my life. My husband and I were having problems and we were separated for a time. Shortly after getting back together, we had our first home built and moved to a whole new way of life. Point is, I had some great and dramatic changes in my life over the course of about one year or less. The weekend that we moved, it hit me really hard. That's when I started noticing the pain. The fatigue that I had been complaining about for the past couple of years (doc thought I was depressed, etc.) suddenly became 10 times worse. We moved the end of October and by early January, I was in the hospital with fatigue so bad, I thought I was having a heart attack. My breathing was severly labored, I had chest pains, etc. It took them another six months of tests to figure out what the problem was. I do believe that physical and emotional stress can affect or even cause onset. Thanks for listening. Hope you both have a pain free day.
