Hi ,

You better hang on to this guy!! Not too many

doctors really look at you as a whole person. Most

just see a symptom or lab result, not the whole

picture.

The study

> mentions platelet increase in

> Hep c with interferon.

Is this the study on people with HCV who have low

platelets using Interleukin-11?

Take care, Claudine

Hi Claudine,

No, it is a study with interferon. It is from British Journal of

Hematology.

I was sent to him because my hepatologist thought I might have ITP. He does

not think so, thinks I am going through an active hep cycle, and that is the

reason my platelets dropped. His opinion, which he said he will put in

writing and strongly recommend, that I be treated, that until the viris is

treated the platelets will not recover. He gave me a copy, and will send the

report to my other docs. He took the time to explain to me, that platelets

can be in an enlarged spleen and that does not mean they are no good, but

that they will circulate when needed, something I had never heard before.

The girls in the lab said it could be a while before I see the report,

because he always orders such different tests than any of the other docs.

when you mean blood in your urine, do you mean something like

microscopic hematuria? basically which is red blood cells in the

urine but can only be seen under the microscope? if so this can

happen with taking NSAIDS or asprin, also still's itself can cause

it but it's rare in both instances, but I have it. Now for the

proteins they could be looking for amyloidosis which is also rare

but is a complication of the still's. It can be serious so try and

get all the info you can from your rheumy and hematologist on what

exactly are they looking for.

My rhuemy called me today asnd said I have to go see a Hemotologist

because of the abnormal proteins in my blood and urine.. Has anybody

been through this??? Kinda has me spooked. But yet again Stills

does to.

Been there, done that many times over the years.....and again the last few

weeks.

I have not enough albumin, but too much alpha 1 protein. The albumin loss

makes fluid seep from the blood to the tissues, giving me horrible edema. The

alpha 1 protein means I have a disease like Stills....it's sort of like how a

sed

rate can tell inflamation.

Lucky for me, the blood in my urine was from a kidney stone ;-) Protein and

blood can also signal kidney problems. Hang in there! I love my hematologist

;-) He's one of my best docs!

Tess, I hope the iron infusion helps you. From time to time I ha this feeling

of not getting enough air (I didn't know it was a symptom) and I get in a real

panic. Fortunately it doesn't happen often. I get B12 injections every month

and I am still anemic. It does help when the doc is good looking LOL

I saw a very nice hematologist (and very handsome : ) yesterday. He said what

I have been experiencing, besides the great fatigue, is 'air hunger' - where you

do not feel like you are ever getting enough air even when you are just sitting

still. Reminds me of an asthma attack minus the wheezing. He has scheduled me

for an iron infusion next week, will wait four weeks after to do more draws,

then decide if I need another infusion or we will just keep an eye on things.

Gentle hugs...
