I'd like to put in a good word for the old fashioned sling psychrometer. It can be purchased with alcohol thermometers for about $40-45. I trust it more than my electronic IAQ meter when it comes to relative humidity. In case you have not seen one, it has one dry and one wet thermometer and a gauge on the unit to convert to relative humidity.

I am looking to purchase a low cost humidity and temperature meter for a public health program. Can anyone provide recommendations for a low cost meter? One that seems to be a good choice from internet comparisons is the Martel C-315 Mini Humidity/Temp Meter which runs for $110.

Dear Colleagues:

I would like to point a major potential problem with sling pyschrometers:

Swinging a glass device containing mercury in spaces occupied by people sounds

like to much of a risk of harm due to potential breakage and the ensuing mercury

cleanup to justify this approach.

Just my perspective.

Rereading Pamela's posting I see she mentions thermometers that contain alcohol

and NOT mercury. I just I was just too quick to jump in. What a fool I am.

Apologies,

Bearg

No problem! I am sure they are still available with mercury so those

should surely be avoided as you mentioned.

I used to have a psychrometer that used an internal, battery operated fan,

so that slinging was not an issue. Not as fun, but much less intrusive and

less likely to " put someone's eye out, as my grandmother was found of

saying.
