Nice thing was we got snow here! It's unusual for our area to get it so

we enjoy it's brief appearance.

Hope everyone is doing good considering.

I am in Houston and it is only about 32 degrees but still my muscles

and joints are taking a serious beating. My head is killing me and I

feel just icky. All I have to say is that the old wives were right,

because I could tell the weather was going to get bad!

Hi Debbie,

My hands have been hurting since the cold hit. Last night we got home from

the grocery store my husband brought all the groceries in while I unlocked the

door, well the button you have to push was frozen so I stupidly hit it with the

palm of my hand. Well I paid dearly for that, it is hard remember (I am new at

this) I have RA and any time I forget I pay for it.

I have been feeling worse Debbie. I can't walk far and can't

stand on my feet very long and I want to sleep more.

We are getting bad weather in the Dallas area but I believe

your area has been hit worse. You'll are getting a lot of

rain aren't you? Right now we just have clouds and is cold.

It's suppose to start raining either tomorrow or Thursday.

I think that it is more the barametric pressure changing. Rising,

falling. That what seems to affect arthritis the most. I have OA

too,and have had that long before the RA decided to join the

party. Hands and knees always told me a day or so in advance that

the weather would be changing. Not everything achs when the weather

is going to change.

I do better in the dry cold weather than in the humid hot weather.

Hi Joyce,

Now it's raining again. Earlier we had sleet, then snow and then tiny

snow like stuff. It will be going below freezing tonight so all the

wet areas will freeze. Saturday when the system started through we

received 6.5 inches rain. Then colder stuff the next day. Since I

just have fibro and OA the cold is bothering those.

Since this storm started, I got 8.8 inches of rain and ice. Now it's been

below freezing for almost 2 days and it's supposed to snow/rain/sleet

tomorrow. So far, it hasn't affected me. I'm surprised at that because it

normally tells my body it doesn't want to work right, but this time, it's

easy on me. I don't understand...

Debbie, were you living in that area 10 or 15 years ago? Austin

and surrounding areas got 10 inches of snow. My inlaws live

in Luling which is about 23 miles from San Marcus and they got

about the same as Austin. The weatherman called it a freak storm.

I guess it was because Austin rarely gets that much snow.

Once this cold air started moving into Houston my sinus started in

It's 7 degrees here in Colorado Springs....soooo cold! I have had more overall

joint and muscle pain and am really tired....dragging my butt. It is supposed

to be a high of 34 tomorrow. The warmest in days, then get colder for more snow.

I love the snow, it is truly beautiful, but man am I cold and aching. And my

utility bill just about gave me a coronary! My third, and coldest winter since

moving here. Stay warm everyone...

Oh, I know what you mean! Any time my hands are bad, it even hurts

to press the buttons on the microwave or on the keypad for your debit

card at the grocery store. What I hate is that when my hands are

bad, they are also so WEAK. Some days, even if they aren't hurting

TOO much, I can't even open a water bottle. Other days, they feel

fine.

Even though they weren't bothering me yesterday, and our grooming

area is heated, I still wore thinsulate lined leather gloves while I

was grooming. I find that if I let them get cold, they really seize

up.

I had something funny happen yesterday when I was riding.

Fortunately, my horse is very well trained, and has always been light

in front, so he doesn't present any major problem for my

hands/arms/shoulders. But I had a jumping lesson yesterday, and had

a very hard time keeping him out in front of my leg. He usually

responds to my leg and seat very nicely, though a young girl who

rides him for me sometimes has a harder time getting him him through

and forward. He also loves to jump, so usually gets plenty of his

own motor once he sees the fences going up.

My theory is that because, at the moment, my hips are the part of me

that is particularly bad, that even though I _thought_ I was using my

leg the way I normally would, I might have had much less leg strength

than either of us are used to me using. I did eventually get him out

in front of me, but we ate a couple of fences first.<g> Fortunately,

he's such a good egg that he saved my butt anyway. I just reminded

him that that's his job now.<g> My hips weren't really HURTING when

I was riding, and I wasn't aware of using less leg, it was just his

reaction to my leg that made me wonder. If I didn't know him so

well, I might not have noticed the difference. This has happened to

me a couple of other times, but I didn't make the comnnection as

clearly as I did yeterday.

Do you find that you have days riding where you have much less

strength than you know you " should " have? I would think it would be

particularly difficult if you are riding a lot of young horses. At

least I don't have to worry about Oliver trying to deposit me in the

dirt!<g>

When you DO get to Walmart, visit the automotive section. They have

memory foam steering wheel covers that are _great_ for us. Not only

do they make the wheel softer and wider to hang onto, but they also

insulate your hands from the cold plastic.

What I do is wear a cheap pair of those one-size-fits-all knit gloves inside

a pair of mittens. If it's in the single digits, and I know I'll be out and

about for a long time, I might even slip one of those chemical warming

packets inside each mitten. They last for a few hours. Very warm. And

they're cheap when they are on sale.

I really should get some of those battery powered heated gloves.

DH got inventive and made me a solution for the microwave. This

sounds a little silly but works very well, so... He glued a

triangular piece of wood to a tennis ball, and sanded the edges of the

wood so they're rounded off a bit. I hold the tennis ball in the palm

of my hand, and push the buttons with the point of the wood. This

distributes the pressure over a wide area of my palm, meaning it takes

less strength to push the buttons. It eliminates the pain. Looks

funny, works GREAT!

Hi Joyce,

San most likely got similar precipitation as we did. The

weather report shows the wide band of it spreading into south Texas.

We ended up with at least 8.5 inches or more, too.

When I first moved to Chicago I did not have RA. Since the RA is really a large

part of my daily life, I cringe when the remps drop in the teens. The lower that

temp gets the more bone crushing pain. I may only have sympthons in remote areas

daily but with the lower temps, it seems more areas are affected. Its in the

teens today and my joints are yelling!!!
