Welcome. I'm sort of new to this group as well and have learned a lot.

I'm not personally aware of an RA diet plan, but my doctor suggested the " Eat

to Live " book, which is written for weight loss, but he believes eating this way

can improve RA symptoms. I looked at it on line and the second reviewer said

they had RA and once they started eating this way, their symptoms improved. So I

bought the book, but haven't read it yet. My doc also tested me for food

allergies and told me I had yeast issues, so I've been working to reduce yeast

intake as well as the other foods I'm allergic to (primarily, wheat). Cutting

back on that has improved my symptoms. I'm not saying this works for everyone,

I've just noticed some improvements in me. Good luck!

From what I have read, an Atkins like diet can help improve RA. It gets rid of

the grains which tends to be a high allergy and it gets rid of one of the most

troublesome nightshade veggie...potatoes! I restarted Atkins on the first of

the year and my joints feel better.

However, the whole diet thing is a your mileage may vary scenario. Some of the

fruits that are helpful for some, namely pineapple and cherries, did nothing for

my RA.

center here has a list of foods to avoid, ones that may affect...etc... ive

found that it varies with the individual...most of the avoidance foods are fine

with me..but others that arent on the list hit me right away....for me ,deep

fried anything is a gurantee ill wake up swollen and in pain...trust your own

But if you have a family history of heart problems and high

cholesterol (like me) and your dh is on a cardiac diet, that diet

will not work. At least not for us.

Think that it goes back to the back to the point that each

individual is different, and we have to learn and explore what can

and will work for each of us individually.

The nightshade diet must have some validity, it has been around for

so long, and I know that many to swear that it helps them. Haven't

noticed an iota of difference with it with me. Do know that Drs

pooh pooh it, but it is a rare Dr that really knows much about

nutrition.

FWIW, I have been using a basic mediterean diet for us (dh and me)

with a lot of omega3s. His cholesterol has gone way down and my RA,

though still there, has gotten better. Using omega3 eggs and the

omega3 eggbeaters.

That seems to work for us.

You'll find a wealth of info if you Google " anti-inflammatory diet. "

Gluten is a big problem for many of us and eliminating grains such as

wheat can help a lot. Eliminating fried foods and " bad oils " and

getting lots of good omega-3 oils (in salmon, flax seeds, etc.) is

important. Many find it helps to eliminate dairy products and sugar.

Lots of fresh, organic fruits and veggies are vital! Diet is a very

challenging change to make but it's worth it to give it all we've got.
