Guest guest
I love Disney. May I suggest a mobility cart. It is approximately 40 dollars a day. If you go to more than 1 park the receipt entitles you to a cart at any park. You will see the park much more efficiently since your family and you will have much shorter lines. When I try to walk the entire park my hips and legs ache. When I use a cart, I have a wonderful time. Enjoy. <cook.nicole@...> wrote: My DH and I are taking our kiddos (ages 7, 3, and 18 months) to Disney in 3 weeks. I have an appointment with my Rheumy on the Monday before we leave. I am currently not taking anything for my RA, but am having a lot of pain. I have been newly diagnosed as Sero-Negative RA by a new rheumatologist and we are still working on my treatment plan of action. I was on a trial run of prednisone, and I HATED it...lots of water retention, felt irritable all the time, couldn't sleep, etc...Also it only worked for the first week or so and then my pain came back. I am thinking of asking my doc to give me a prescription for vicodin or similar to help while on the trip. It's not like I'll be able to take it easy while at Disney and I have pain really badly in my feet, knees an hips. WWYD? What do you think? Any advice on doing a successful week in Disney and NOT having too much pain in the process? Thanks! Raniolo
Guest guest
The first thing I would do is get at wheelchair at Disney! There's a lot of walking, and there's no reason to try and make it. Be comfortable. You can put the baby, or the other kids, on your lap if need be. And take advantage of the handicapped access to the rides, that's what it's there for - people who can't stand in line. Disney is very accommodating, at least Disneyland is. (I've never been to Disney World) Also, when our kids were little, we always tried to go back to the motel for a mid-day nap. Don't know where you're staying, but for us it was worth it to stay close enough to do that, even if it cost a little more. Disney can be overwhelming for kids! I find that taking time to use the pool at the hotel, or even better, the jacuzzi, really helps keep the muscles relaxed and the pain down. Sitting in the jacuzzi before bedtime is a surefire way to help me sleep better. Some pain relief is a good idea, my doc has me taking extra when I travel, and has upped my prednisone, too. I hate it, but I hate it more without it. He's also given me some Lidoderm patches, which give really good localized pain relief. Also, I'm a total wreck for several days after I get home from any trip, because I take the pain meds and then overdo it. For me it's worth it, but I don't have any kids at home and can just collapse if I need to. I sure wouldn't plan anything stressful for a while after I got home. I know you're going to have a wonderful time, just take it easy and never be too embarrassed or stubborn to take whatever help you can get. Whatever makes it easier for you will make the time more fun for your hubby and kids, too. And don't forget to post a report when you back!
