Well, I have a new thing going on... I'd been on enbril and mtx and at least

I was holding my own pretty well .. no bad flares. Then I started getting

what my primary doc thought was psoriasis.. I have an appt. to see a

dermatologist on that... but during the period when my mother was going

through all kinds of misery and infections and stuff I must have rubbed on

my elbows (which were cracked and sore) as I managed to get a confirmed

staph infection in my left elbow. Not in the bone but in the bursa. I was

on 2 kinds of antibiotic, aughmentin and biaxcin (?) ... anyway it's exactly

the same thing as Septra, which I have had mild allergic reactions to in the

past. The sulfa drug was the specific for the type of staph I have and I

was able to take a weeks worth but then I got a rash all over and had to

stop.. :-( My rheumy thinks one week is better than none.. I'm seeing her

Thursday-- we've been on a wait and see. Of course I had to stop all my

R.A. meds, sigh, and yes, I'm having a mild flare. The thing is.. the elbow

hasn't swollen and the redness hasn't spread again but it hasn't gone away

either and I'm terrified of walking around with a staph infection in my

elbow for who knows how long.. ...

Has anyone else dealt with this sort of thing? I'm already retired, so I

don't have to worry about what I'll live on .. and fortunately I have

medical coverage (thank heavens x l00000).. but at 60 I don't want to lose

my ability to function-- I have too much yet to do. thanks, Carla in

Rhode Island
