They gave me meds (antiinflammatory) and it hurt like heck for awhile but finally went away. Mine was in the wrist not the elbow though. It ate the tendon away from the bone, almost, and still hurts when I do certain things. Otherwise, I'm used to it after about 10 years. It hasn't gotten worse, and for that I'm thankful.
