Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Two responses, but not to your questions. First, based on my family's experience, I believe that the immediate reaction many MCS people have to the presence of some molds, which can end immediately upon getting away from the mold, is neither immune system mediated nor a mycotoxin toxicity issue. There seems to be something given off by some molds which can directly affect the operation of the nervous system. One possibility is MVOCs (volatile organic chemicals given off by molds) and another is that some aspect of how molds externally digest their surroundings (an area I've never been able to get a clear picture on in the literature) is becoming airborne, presumably a water soluble substance that enters the aerosol. I'm sure there are other possibilities as well. As MCS people we are shooting ourselves in the foot by focusing on mycotoxins. Second, there is a huge gap between " it has not yet been proven scientifically " and " this isn't true " . 40 years ago my father sat in a conference and listened to so called scientists representing the tetraethyl lead (in gasoline) industry say there was no proof it was harmful to people. More recently cigarettes. You can probably name some contemporary areas in which PR/disinformation efforts use the age old trick of taking a correct " hasn't been proved " statement and somehow leaving the audience convinced they just heard " isn't true " . Hi All, I asked thess questions a long time ago, but I never got any answers. Does anybody have an answer for these questions? 1. It is known that mycotoxins may cause ill health when they enter the body. It is known mycotoxins may enter the body through touch, digestion or inhalation. Name one other substance that is: a. known it may cause ill health when it enters the body; b. may enter the body via touch, digestion or inhalation; c. causes ill health when touched or digested - but does not cause ill health when inhaled. 2. Besides the ACOEM Mold Statement, what other study has determined it is not plausible people could ever inhale enough mycotoxins in homes, schools or offices to become ill? (No GlobalTox/Veritox answers please - same authors) Thanks, Sharon Kramer
