Guest guest
Regarding getting a good night's sleep, I take Temazepam at night and then Sonata in the morning because none of the sleep meds work longer than 5-ish hours...
Guest guest
I take 20 mg of Pamelor (nortryptiline) in the am (makes me too hyper to take at bedtime), then 450 mg of Trileptal throughout the day (this was prescribed for my mild bipolar condition but it also helps with the FM pain and helps me sleep). At bedtime I take 2mg of melatonin and 2mg of lorazepam. Plus I have a whole bedtime ritual that includes dimming the lights, massaging warmed lavender oil on my arms, neck and stomach, and reading for a half-hour. If I wake up during the night and can't get back to sleep with deep breathing or meditation, I take a couple of Kava capsules. I've tried just about everything else, med- wise. Ambien gave me panic attacks. Klonopin worked for a while then abruptly stopped. Lunesta and Roserum did nothing. Elavil sent me to the emergency room with a too-rapid heartbeat. It's so true what Dominie said...we're all so different! --Laurie
Guest guest
I take 25mg. of Elavil which does nothing to help me sleep. I also take Lunesta which works most of the time. I have a doctors appt next week and she always wants to put me on anti depressants. I am concerned- my sister and my 20 yr old daughter take Paxil ( for panic disorder ) and there was a time when my daughter ran out of her RX and didn't take her Paxil- she became distraught, suicidal- I was terrified for her.I have heard that once you are on these anti-depressants getting off of them is like kicking heroin or something. Anyone in the group have any experiences with anti- depressants? Good or bad? My doctor keeps telling me they will help with my Fibro and my menopause issues. Guest guest
for depression I take 10mgs. of Nortryptiline in the a.m. It keeps me awake if I take it at night. This got me through a rough few weeks when my husband had to have heart by-pass last June. It has helped me not to cry all of the time at the least little thing--good or bad:). I have absolutely no side effects from it and I am allowed to go to 20mgs if needed. It seemed to help with the fibro pain also. Elaine From: L. Guest guest
Laurie, where did you get the Kava Kava? It is banned in North America. That is a really good tranquillizer, but I think the drug companies knew that, made a big fuss about liver damage, and had it banned here. An excellent natural remedy. Guest guest
I had a similar experience getting off of Effexor. It was horrible, it started with a panic attack while I was at work. I was trying to pull my hair out, and it only got worse from there. And yet, I still take an antidepressant. Right now it's Cymbalta, which works quite well. I figure I'm going to be on an antidepressant forever, so as long as Cymbalta keeps working, I'm good. Pam Sleep meds Just curious about what sleep meds work for you? Guest guest
Honestly, I've tried several antidepressants and have found they do not help with Fibro at all--only with depression and the quicker you can get off of them the better. Guest guest
I agree with you DEB! I've every one of the antidepressants on the lot over the years. And, I'm so much better without them! Doctors only want to put you on them because it is their only resource for what ails anyone these days. They never take into the consideration the terrible side effects it warrants a person with fibro or a weakened immune system. Messing with your serotonin levels is NOT the answer! I take 25-75 milligrams of Visaril a night to assist in sleep. I also have interstitial cystitis so it is to help with the mast cells that overproduce in the bladder. It helps, but I still get up anywhere from 3-6 times a night to go to the bathroom. I've dealt with this for over 26 years! So, another contributor to the fibro and the lot of other syndromes I have aquired over the years. But, I need not go into that. I'm every fibro stories story! Carolyn > > From: L. Guest guest
I have been on anti-depressants since being diagnosed with FMS. I have done a lot of reading on FMS and everything I have read says that small doses of anti-depressants help but it depends on the type of anti-depressant as there are different categories. I used to be very much against anti-depressants when I was younger but I have found they work for me as they help me cope better with the symptoms of FMS and they help me sleep. Have been on Effexor 75 mgs at night for couple of years, prior to that was taking Tofranil (very old school anti-depressant). But everyone is different and reacts differently to medications. Sometimes it's by trial and error that you find what works for you. Best wishes to all of you, keep smiling.
