well a few years back my doc gave me 5 mg 3 times a day for 10 days, and I

remembered I loved it. I remember feeling energetic and no pain. But I am

bipolar and I get nervous cuz prednisone can cause mood swings or mania

especially in bipolar people. My new rheumy just gave me 10 mg 3 times a day.

Igot VERY nervous, and sure enough my first 2 days - by the 2nd day I was

running all over the houuse singging and not sleeping and so very silly and

restless....but the weeird thing was I was still swollen and red. By the

3rd-5th days I was driving my whole family nuts, jumping around and stuff. BUT

I was also getting testy, too cuz of trying to not smoke cigs....and I was

eating eating eating, everything in sight and then some. Then I got angry at

doc cuz I was REALLY having a hard time not smoking and my days had gotten so

long cuz of not sleeping, so I called my doc and got kinda ugly at him. I

reduced my prednisone down to 5 mg 3 times a day....now I am sleeping

again.....and I slowed down on how much I reduced my smoking, so I am not

getting off cigs as fast as doc wanted...I am now not jumping around quite as

much and am now able to focus a little and begin to live the life I had not been

able to live the last 5 years. (Gosh what happened to my house while I was so

very ill?- what a MESS! I am working hard at it, now)

I am still singing, just not nonstop, LOL.

Bummer is yesterday I musta worked too much (trying to make up for the last 5

years?) and .UG.....I am suffering hard for it..my wrist is all swollen and

hurts so bad, and my shoulder on the other side. :-( in spite of still taking

the prednisone.

ANd now? Here I am a couple weeks after being afraid to start the prednisone

now thinking oh gosh what will I do when he stops the prednisone.

Hi Sierra,

How much Prednisone did she give you? Are you taking it first thing in the

morning? That might help. You should feel much better after the first

couple of days.

My rheumy gave me an Rx for a 15 day course of Prednisone (a " burst " )

because of the tendinitis in my hand. I've never had Pred. before. She

said, " You're going to feel great! " After two days, I mostly feel a bit

groggy from it. Does it take a little while for the " great " to happen?

I was looking forward to that.

If you are not feeling great, maybe inflammation is not your problem?

Trouble is with prednisone, it makes me DO to much cuz I feel so good and I

pay the price later.

Hello,

I started with 30 mg/day for 5 days and then I taper down to 20

mg./day for 5 days, then 10 mg/day for 5 days, then off. I think I'm

noticing a little improvement today. My rheumy told me to stop the

Celebrex while I'm on this ( " you won't need it " ) and I think my body

went through some withdrawal. I also didn't take my weekly MTX dose

on Friday because I'm switching to Arava. So those things could all

explain why I'm not feeling " great. " Yet. :-)
