Guest guest
Tracie, we never give up but eventually recognize there are things out there to help us. Two years ago I bought a small Pride scooter for just under $1,000 and much cheaper then a wheelchair. It comes apart and goes in the trunk of our car if we are going to a mall. It has given me freedom. In Canada our med care only pays for the larger scooters so I had to buy it myself. I understand from a friend in land she is covered by her health plan so perhaps the states is different. It might be worth checking into. Hugs June ----- Original Message ----- From: tracierae143 Hello all, I have decided to bite the bullet so to speak and get a wheelchair so I can be more mobile with my family. It is horrible to have to ask for one to me, but I just cannot keep up with them as I am in so much pain walking or standing that I just don't go anywhere. If I have a wheelchair, I am much more mobile. I won't use it all the time, but for many, many events this would make my life so much better. Here is my question, has anyone gotten one? How do you go about getting one through your insurance? I am sure my rheumy or my GP will write me the script that is not a problem. I have Aetna for insurance. I don't get my Medicare until November. I was thinking I should probably get it now while I am still on the Aetna as it is very good insurance and besides that I really cannot wait until November. I would miss the whole summer with the kids. If anyone has any information they would like to share you can email me at tracierae143@... I want you all to know that I am not giving up; just accepting the facts that if I want to be more moobile and enjoy my children while they are young and attend some stuff with them then I need the wheelchair. Staying home alone all the time is definitely not the answer. Thanks to all, Tracie in Maine
Guest guest
Just wanted to toss in my $0.02 I got my scooter a few years ago.....I did not wait for Medicare either, but I did use my back pay from soc sec and paid cash. Why? For the same reason. My kids. I was not able to do most of the things we always did teogether, especially in summer, going to zoo, parades, fireworks, county fairs, concerts and parks etc. Even the days I could walk, I sure could not keep up with my kids, nor make the distance. My kids found it great fun for me to be able to zip around and catch up to them again and chase them around. My dog rode on the part by my feet, the kids would load drinks and blankets in my basket and my son often climbed up on back of my scooter and rode with while my girls tagged along beside us. If it were not for my scooter, I doubt I could have made it into the school gym for their concerts and pagents and graduations from elem school etc.... It was DEFINTELY NOT " giving up " but more of " jumping back in " And we were all very very excited at my house when we were geting ready to get it. It was kinda like getting life back again, here. - In , " tracierae143 " <tracierae143@...> wrote: > > Hello all, > > I have decided to bite the bullet so to speak and get a wheelchair > so I can be more mobile with my family.
