Hi Parrish,

I have been on all of them. Arava helped some, with minium side

effects on me. Now I am on Arava, MTX, and Mobic. Each persons body

responds differently to each medicine or combination of medicines.

Good luck finding the right one.

Parrish, Arava worked very well for me in helping the pain and

inflammation, more than mtx. Unfortunately, the mtx had already lowered

my white cell count too much, and the Arava continued the decline. We

are all different, and therefore respond in different ways to the meds.

Parrish,

I was on Arava for awhile. I eventually went off the arava because I was

having minimal help from it and was having side effects of the drugs. Headaches

and etc. I was on MTX and arava at the same time so they just stopped the arava

and continued my MTX as always. I also work at a hospital and during the time I

was on Arava I worked on a Physical Medicine and Rehab Unit and all the doctors

that worked that unit definitely wanted me to be off the arava. They did not

like all the side effects of Arava. The other members are right though, everyone

responds differently to different medications. Good Luck with your decision.

Any insight into Arava?

I'm debating between Arava, Plaquenil and MTX.

Thanks,

Parrish

Hi Parrish,

Plaquenil made me so sick I couldn't stay on it for long ehough to

see if it would help. Arava helped my RA TREMENDOUSLY (better than

anything else, so far) but I had to stop taking it because it was

affecting my liver.

Plaquaenil doesn't make most people as sick as it did me, and it

doesn't have as many serious side effests as some of the otehr

drugs, so it's a good place to start. For some people, it's all

they need for a long time. If Plaquenil doesn't help, I'd certainly

give Arava a try... as I said, it helped me a lot. And there are

many people who don't run into the liver problems I had.

Incidentally, even though I had to stop taking Arava, it never made

me sick or anything... the liver problem was caught with routine

blood work, and I stopped taking it. Then we just did more frequent

blood work until my liver was back to normal. So even though it

didn't work out for me, nothing terrible happened.
