Guest guest
Bev I too want to express my gratitude. In the old days (in fact, I've done it here) I would have consistently tied to convince people to change their ways. And of course with my logic communication background, I would easily spot flaws in their thinking and manipulate words, etc. It seems that when I get triggered here, I tend to remember more and more to do a worksheet. Here, I've learned that unless my intent is about love and respecting others, I can take out a worksheet and do the work. So BRING IT ON. I CAN TAKE IT. (a thought I think I'll keep, until I don't) thanks Steve diet I have strong ideas about what my diet should be like. It's an annoying blessing to see the conversation thread going on here. What I see is a lot of people trying to convince others of the validity of a certain path ( " mine " not " yours " ). I've certainly been an evangelist for my diet, too. Thank you for showing me myself. Love, Bev
Guest guest
Hey Treyce-- People with hypothyroidism have varying symptoms related to diet. The usual symptoms are gaining, or not being able to lose, weight easily. Hypothyroid people are also more prone to hypoglycemia and diabetes. Either way, diet is extraordinarily important, from everything I've read. When you think about your own diet, there are some key issues you might want to ask yourself: do you think you eat well? does your physician think you eat well? How many servings of protein, vegetables, carbohydrates/ grains and dairy do you have per day? Are you consistent in making good choices? As far as I know, diet is part of the foundation for good health and good healing. If you feel you're delinquent in dietary choices, the best thing to do, if you ask me, is cook your own meals, so you know exactly what you are eating. If you hate to cook, at least consider the following: eat breakfast at home; pack your lunch; and choose a place for supper that offers a wide variety of steamed or roasted vegetables and non-fried meats. And, if at all possible, I would avoid fast food. Hope this helps. Best wishes-- Courtenay. > > How much of living with, or controlling, hypo is dietary changes ? Guest guest
Sondra, I don't know if you drink pop, but if you do, that's a good one to cut out! Beth decided she wants to eat better so we are trying not to go to fast food places anymore. That's our first step towards eatting healthy! sondra wrote: so if one is of to learn of the diet and want of to be of healthy and to lose of weight which 3 foods would you be of to eliminate of you diet? Guest guest
thanks for the ideas so far, yes have worked on reducing the soda I to drink and have for the most part reduce the frequency I to eat of FF from fast foods. but the refined breads is of one can and will work on much so as one of the goals for me this year. I to not eat much sweets but my areas of issues is of pastas? I to love of them as my favorite sort of food. so will try to find a good healthy alternative to that and the bread have changed to whole grain sorts of bread that are of brown and not white breads, but will read of the side to assure they are of helathy choices. While I to love of fruits/veggies too I to need to practice eating them more fresh and in natural states and not cooking or adding sauces or oils to them. that is of another choice I to want to work on. One of my recent changes too has been to eat of more salmon and less red meats or fried meats. I to steam of the salmon with fresh lemon wedges and spices. Guest guest
Sondra- When I wanted to lose weight I stopped drinking Coca Cola. I truly loved this stuff. I was addicted. Anyway, I lost 10lbs in one week from switching to diet soda. The best way I know is to eat nothing bigger then the palm of your hand. like a chicken breast no bigger then the palm of your hand. Use smaller plates too. I don't like to diet, it seems that you lose the weight but gain it back when the diet is over T > thanks for the ideas so far, yes have worked on reducing the soda I to > drink and have for the most part reduce the frequency I to eat of FF > from fast foods. > > but the refined breads is of one can and will work on much so as one of > the goals for me this year. Guest guest
Sondra, In 1999, I lost 100 pounds by praying more, cutting my meals in 1/2 and no drinking or eating anything sweet/caloric in between meals. At meals, I chose to drink only water mostly but if I did have my favorite drink (Sweet tea-southern girl here) then I had half at a meal only. That being said, I gained it all back about 3 years later. I let depression and some tragedies affect my behavior modification. This year, I vowed to not do that again to my body or my life! I am doing what I did before and including exercise & joining a gym. I already feel better. We can encourage each other! I know you can do it. You are such a strong woman and have overcome so much already. Guest guest
yes for me want to lose of 20 or so pounds to be to feel healthy. My weight is of mostly tummy and thigh and so need of to lose of that to help decrease of chances to get of late on set diabetes as this runs to my family much so. I to think for me food is of a source of great comfort and when under so much stress which has been for so long that over time I to found that food helped of me so would even drive to seek of that comfort food to get away fromthe home where stress can be for me. When I to leave of the home of me I to had no place to go as not have of friends can be to just go to so found self just going to the long time comfort place since had of control now to e of able to access it when as a child , teen and young adult did not even if I to did want of it could not access it. so to me it has been a things that becomed a pattern for me to just get away and find the food to bring me calm and comfort for that but not sure if this is of a complete tue as one things I to also be to discovered over self is that I to tend to hear of NT people speak often of thing such as this and then assume because I to do similar things that this must be to truth for me too. I to hear so many words and script them back that many assume that is because I to have internal awareness of the meaning of the words for own self and now am of discovering that is of not true for self in complete. The doctor share to me it is because womans of the ages of 40 simply just be to gain of the weight and struggle with weight gains at this age due to hormones and metabolism. which ever the cause it is of not making me to feel physically well and want of it to be of gone. I to drink of sodas yes but usually it is of diet or if not it is of vernors ginger ale of root beer as those are the only two sodas that will drink if cant be to get of diet coke or pepsi. Guest guest
Crystal yes for me could not diet as it does not work ever to keep off the weight. One has to make of permanent changes to ones over all eating rituals and or routines to make a difference. I to need to do it slowly too as too much change sets me up for failure too. I to need to work one areas at a time until feel confident in that change before can add a new one. Sondra
