Guest guest
Annette, 2007 was the beginning of our journey with Autism. My then 2 year old was dg in December of 2006, so this year has been full of research and discovery for us. Paisley wasn't speaking at all, the ECI therapist she was seeing started using signs with her and since then Paisley has been picking up some words..although still not alot a little to me is still big progress. She is doing alot better behaviorally with the help of signs. They really do help bridge the gap. We still can't go to the grocery store at 5 in the afternoon, but that's okay. I am still learning new things everyday that I can use to help my daughter reach her full potential. alissasmomma wrote: Last year was a hard year on our family. We lost the ROCK of our family- my father Alissas papa 1/29 he was buried on her 7th bday 2/1. My two sisters brought my niece who was 6 to be with us- and my dh took Alissa and na to Chuck E Cheese while we did the service at Abraham Lincoln National cemetary. My hopes are high that this year will be better than last. Both of Alissas brothers have been silly teens and have had many many moments when I think she is actually easier to live and deal with than they are and they are NT. I am reflecting today- at K time they couldn't even guess how smart Alissa was- she wouldn't talk to strangers or even look at them. Now she is reading almost grade level 2......her writing is behind but she can write- its just BIG and not spaced correctly- we are working on it though She is learning and talking in large sentences now. She still mimics us mostly me- so I have to watch it BIG TIME!! My mother lives in a senior apt building and those who have known alissa since birth see great improvement in her since the OT & speech etc etc with school. I hope everyone can drop a quick update on your child so I can get to know a tiny bit about everyone....its hard for me to keep up I will have to start a notebook to know who is who........ I will be praying for everyone that this year is the BEST!! Annette --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now.
