Guest guest
Cardiology appt. I see the discussion about the chest pains and I get flash backs.. I am happy to say my cardiology followup was a good one. He said he didn't think I was in danger of a heart attack or anything, that sometimes RA can cause the inflammation and fluid around the heart which can sometimes cause the pain I experienced recently. A thorough exam with ekg and ultrasound all in one day was done. He is an excellent cardiologist.. I wish I could say that about most of my medical experiences here in this state. I know some others live here and experiences are different, but I can only speak of my experience and my RA has been treated poorly here and has actually worsened more here than any other place I've lived.. I have seen 4 rheumatologists in the this state alone. the last one I see now is the most thorough but waaay too busy for quality care. I must say Jenna, my experience with the blood clot last year was similar in that it involved severe chest pains and people standing around doing nothing for me.. I was in the doctor's office with pain that left me barely able to speak. they were bringing in more people, trying to read my facial expression, with a thousand questions,(I am guessing they thought I wanted painkillers), no one getting an x-ray. I waited an hour to be seen by the doctor and they knew I was there for severe chest pains I had to be wheeled in --and had been to the ER the day before. They looked and looked and asked a few more questions several of them just standing there looking at me. Then finally I started to cry just to make them do something. I cried on purpose just to make them move. I was thinking if I don't look more in pain, these people are going to let me die. When they finally wheeled me back down to ER to be x-rayed, they found a clot -- a significant sized clot in my left lung, my heart was compensating for the lung in trouble, pumping harder faster. My body was in shock which went on to last 36 hours, my blood pressure dangerously low, all systems began to fail. I guess I didn't look in enough pain for them to do anything until they saw me crying. A sad shame the kind of care some of us are exposed to. I am blessed to still be here. They kept telling me how they saved my life. and why they had to add 20+ pounds of fluid in 2 days to keep me alive. I was swollen beyond recognition. I went into the hospital weighing 138 pounds and in 2 days weight close to 170 pounds from the fluid. It was extremely traumatic psychologically and obviously physically and something I felt could have been avoided if people would have not behaved so lethargically because it was a woman in with chest pains. I was totally brushed off for quite some time. I read what you said about your mom and could totally picture that happening unfortunately. It is not shocking to me, but it should be unheard of. peace and healing, Ebony --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Messenger’s low PC-to-Phone call rates. Guest guest
Ebony, There is no way that you should have suffered that much in an emergency room. I think that they focus too much on whether the pt is drug seeking and too little on what they can do to relieve the pain and find then cause of it or while they are testing for the cause of it.. What would have been the harm in giving you something for the pain while they did their standing around and looking??? Even had you been a drug seeker...you would have been sober by the time you left...and they would then " have your number " for next time. Instead they let a woman suffer needlessly. I bet if you had made a large comotion about it that would have just clarified in their minds that you were drug seeking. It is sad shape that our medical community is in right now! I am so sorry that you had to suffer, but thank God that you had a happy ending!! One more example folks of how we have to be proactive and not let them tell us what we are feeling or not feeling! Ebony could have died had she gone home with a pulmonary embolism! And the shame is that no one would be the wiser...not the family or the hospital who were totally negligent in her care! No one should have to suffer while 20 people stand around and stare at her! That is also invading your privacy!ANd they wonder why so many nurses and Dr.s are leaving the profession...it is because of incompetency like this! Ebony, thank you so much for sharing your story and making this more real for everyone here!.....jenna.....and I am so glad that your follow up appt was a good one!! great news! > > Cardiology appt. > > I see the discussion about the chest pains and I get flash backs.. > > I am happy to say my cardiology followup was a good one.
