Guest guest Posted January 5, 2008 Report Share Posted January 5, 2008 Alissa will be 8 yrs old Feb 1st. She suprises me with every new speech pattern that emerges. She learns at a very fast rate compared with her classmates which is why half day she is in regular classes. She doesn't really mesh with her Lasso teacher- but loves the regular kids & classroom. She has a assistant that goes with her to help her as she learns differently from regular kids. I am so proud of her. She does get frustrated easy. In the play places she does talk to other kids but doesn't like the ones who hit or bully those younger. I am so glad alissa is non-agressive. She knows hitting is wrong & tells others not to do it. There are moments when I wonder where her autism goes- it is almost invisible. BUT then if things change she cannot handle it- and gets upset & frustrated easy. I couldn't home-school her- she craves other children around. She loves us the most- but really loves the whole school experience. I just cannot predict day to day what she will want to do. We let her be the guide to how much socialization she wants to try. How much talking does Hannah do? Does she like to talk on the phone? This was a biggie for Alissa until my goddaughters little girl who is 3 calls for Alissa- now she will talk maybe 2 min. Its a start but then she wants to go see her after- they live in TN and we are in IL so its not possible to just GO- that Alissa cannot grasp.
