Joy,

Last winter, pre-RA diagnosis, I had aching in both wrists and elbows with

tingling in my

fingers. Because there was no swelling, they did not consider RA. I had an EMG

and was

diagnosed with mild carpal and ulnar (elbow) tunnel in both hands/elbows. The

neurologist also thought that my Fibromyalgia triggered a type of neuritis which

made my

symptoms that much worse.

However, in retrospect, I think I was developing RA at the time. RA and carpal

tunnel co-

exist because of the pressure inflammation exerts.

I have wrist splints, although the RA pain is far worse than the tingling.

My significant other has carpel tunnel. His hand pain is very similar to mine.

However his hands do not go into uncontrollable spasms. Anything that requires I

use my thumbs is painful - including carrying my mail from the mailbox I

definately have RA. .

Yes, I have the same problem. (I don't have carpal tunnel) The OT who

worked with me soon after dx had meget soft splints for my hands and

werists. She said I should really wear them every night. That helps

with the numbness in the first 3 fingers, or my whole hand

going " dead " . The problem I continue to have is with the outside 2

fingers on each hand. I know that the " problem nerve " in this case is

the one in your elbow ( " funny bone " ) the problem is that I haven't come

up with any way to keep my elbows from bending too far that doesn't

make it impossible to sleep.

As I said, I know it's the nerve that runs through the elbow. I

suspect the numbness is cause by a combination of the

swelling/inflamation of the RA, particularly if you tend to curl

your arms up when you sleep.
