Guest guest
Ether for me did go and much was of too complex for me to grasp of what was happening and had to keep asking of the husband and the creatures yes very scary to me, but what caused more fear to me was the sudden burst of loud sounds from the movie that to me was unexpected to me because cant anticipate of what is of going to happen next where it appears others do because of the sequence of things and being able to read of the subtle cues that i to not be of able to read. this causes me to impulsivly hit self in the face hard in my needs to cover my ears. When feared not just to tune out sounds find self need to cover the ears much quickily as a reaction to my fears. so over all because did not comprehend much of the things it did not set in a fear to me in complete except as I to shared those sudden impact of noises that were of so loud to me and the creatures growling and such. If had comprenhended of the movie and maybe more aware of things then it might have triggered more fear to me. I to felt of stong emotion to the dog though as felt bad it got biten and dies of it. I to also not understand what happened to all the peoples in NY. and then suddenly some human people came again. I to also liked of the puppy in the begin and the little girl she was ever so sweet a little girl. she loved of her daddy. but the lack of people was of confusing to me, the creatures were of much scary and vicious like wild animals caged or cornered. They were of not an understood to me and my brain only seen of them as a animal of the wild. I to be could not tell if they were to be of vampires or warewolves or what creature they were to be of. I to be of greatly fearful of vampires. Anyways the husband wanted of to see of that movie and I to like of will smith so felt it would be of good to go for him and such since he likes of this sort of movies, he hates of to always have to see of my sorts of movies so I to be to compromised to go to one for him. not always a good outcome but do try to learn not to be of so fearful of things. Guest guest
Jeez, hopefully it wasn't too torturous for you to sit thru all that sensory overload. I would hope your husband could go see those types of movies with a friend who enjoys those kinds of movies. I refuse to go see horror movies with anyone b/c I can't stand them. I don't like being startled with sudden scenes. I'll scream out loud, hit my husband's arms or squeeze so darn tight, I probably cut off his circulation. He knows I hate them, so even at home, when he watches them, he'll do it after I go to bed or is out of the house. It's good to try to compromise, but it's also OK to say I can't stand that kind of movie. I like Will too, but maybe not in this movie. Maybe I'll let my daughter go see it first & she can tell me if it's worth going to, or she can go with her Dad b/c he'll probably like it. Not that he watches that many horror movies; there are other movies we both like to see, like action movies. Marie A. Guest guest
Sondra -- I used to be afraid of vampires too. Then it dawned on me that in the movies they are generally very good looking and seductive. I figured since I was going to die anyway someday, being seduced by a good looking man wouldn't be a bad way to go! (This is a joke. I was afraid, but not so much any more. But I still don't watch scary movies! I get nightmares too easy.) -- Cassie sondra wrote: > Ether for me did go and much was of too complex for me to grasp of what > was happening and had to keep asking of the husband and the creatures > yes very scary to me, but what caused more fear to me was the sudden > burst of loud sounds from the movie that to me was unexpected to me > because cant anticipate of what is of going to happen next where it > appears others do because of the sequence of things and being able to > read of the subtle cues that i to not be of able to read. this causes > me to impulsivly hit self in the face hard in my needs to cover my > ears. Guest guest
Sorry to comment so late on this. I think it went into my spam catcher for some reason. Anyway, Sondra I just hate scary movies. Sometimes all the sound and violence and images make me so upset I feel dizzy and sick. Once I went to Jurassic Park by mistake. For some reason I didn't realize it was a horror movie. I had a very bad reaction to that one. I think that you are so very brave to go on purpose just to please your hubby. I am lucky, because my dh doesn't like scary movies either so no one wants me to go to them. Thank goodness! My good friend Dawn has suffered from the terrible volume they use in movie theaters these days. She stopped going to movies for a long time because she was not able to stop the sounds when they were too much for her to experience. Now she has started going to the movies again, but she takes soft foam ear plugs that she buys at the drugstore. She puts them in when the movie starts, so that she doesn't experience the sound so intensely. Have you ever tried ear plugs to make the movie less intense? I know not everyone can wear them. Guest guest
Sandy I to not be of able to use the foam ear plugs much as they cause of me pains after a short time and too much pressure tends to build up in the ear causing me ear pains and bad headaches. But I to have of a sound cancelation system and use of that when going but that day forgot of them so went to the bathroom and got of some toilet paper damp and squeezed out all the liquid and then used of them as a plug like things and I to use of cotton balls too in the same fashions. The sound cancellation system has a weak wire and so shorts out now off and on so they need of replaced for me. they are of a costly things but do plan with some of my speak money in march to buy of me a new set as I to really do need of them for many reasons. I too did not be to know the movie was of scary until after i to went of it already and it was of scary to me but only the creature parts because it was of too loud and fast for me to process, and because of saying to self not real not real over and over. I to also close of the shirt over my face when feared and chews on my inner shirt collar things for a time to rid self of the imagages to cause of me fears. But over all because lacked comprehension of the movie it was not as fearful as some movies are for me because did not comprehend of the implied meanings or intent and had no ability to keep up and much of the movie was of non verbal and this causes me a loss and because cant read that also cant interpret it to cause of me fears or an ability to know what is of expected to happen next. My Aimee is of much into vampires. she loves to read all the books on them and see of all the movies about them. Sondra
Guest guest
Sondra your sound cancellation system sounds nice. It would help if movies weren't so loud these days. I can hardly bear the sound level at most movies, so I don't know how people who have sensitivity to sound stand it at all. When you described closing your shirt over your face, I had a memory flash of my scary movie. By the end of Jurassic Park, I had been hiding my face against my hubby's shoulder and hanging on tightly to his arm for a long time. When the movie was over, his arm was totally numb. I think it took a long while before the feeling came back in his arm,LOL. Sometimes, when you find yourself stuck in a movie you didn't know was going to be scary, hiding your face and blocking out the sounds is the best thing you can do. I think I might have asked dh to leave the movie, he doesn't like scary either, but we had gone with another couple so we were stuck there. Sandi In a message dated 1/18/2008 2:06:53 P.M.
