Guest guest
, I don't know what the procedure is at BI....DrRand always offers to let folks take them home becasue he/NEBH also have them as a digital file, as I understand it. If it isn't possible to take the film, or just in case, bring a digital camera to your visit and take a picture while the film is up on the light box. You will then have a momento/image to cherish forever! Take Care, Cam

Guest guest
, Maybe you can ask them to email you the digital image if it is in an everyday format? that would be easiest of all. Congrats on your toilet seat riser...I was very happy to have one and regreted my husband insisting that it be relegated to the trash heap at 6 months....but he was right, at that point it was just a luxury. Guest guest
Hi ! I have not been on line for a bit, but at the Beth Israel, you can get a CD copy of your xrays. I think that you have to submit the request in writing or sign a form. Guest guest
I got my MRI pics on CD from Lowell General, but they are not in a format that allows copying, so I would not be able to post them online. I wonder if this is usually the case. Sheron Re: [ ] xray question Hi ! I have not been on line for a bit, but at the Beth Israel, you can get a CD copy of your xrays. Guest guest
Iam curious, how often and of what do you all have xrays? I had xrays done within few days of an explosive onset of what is suspected as RA (12/2004) and then again at 9 mos. ( 9/2005). The Xrays were done of my hands. Iam currently 2 plus years out from diagnosis. I have symptoms in my hands but I would say the worst of my symptoms are shoulders, chest, elbow, knees and feet. The doc has never ordered xrays of those joints. Since I only had slight changes in my hands at 9 mos he believes my meds are doing their job..has not checked them again since he sees no obvious visual deformaties in my hands. Should I be asking for more extensive xrays? or is this sufficient? How often do you all get xrays? Faith ( calif)
Guest guest
Hi Faith, My RA Dr. usually does X-rays once a year unless I other wise complain about pain, I am rated at a Moderate/ severe level 5. I am on Enbrel injections 25 mg twice a week, max does of MTX, Mobic, Prednisone ( which I am weening myself off ) Folic acid, Prilosec, for a hiatel hernia which is really bad right now. And Vicodin for pain. I'm 47 years old and Have been treating my RA now for 7 years, The disease progression is finally becoming rapid, and is starting to deform my fingers. I have learned to adapt my daily routines, knowing that if I'm going to work I need to get up at least two hours before heading out the door. This gives me time to get in my stretching and some PT type exercises, which help greatly. The best Advise I can give is eat right and continue to be mobile with exercise. That and I also use a heating blanket, ice for swelling, and a lot of bio freeze gel works wonders to for the aches. It's not much fun living with chronic pain, but one thing is for sure, that you are not alone. This is a very good group. Guest guest
I have had several sets of x-rays of the afflicted joints also numerous bone scans and nerve tests. My goal is that these will taper off as they get my meds regulated. Patti (Chicago) " Taking it one day at a time! Guest guest
I've had x-rays done only once, and that was of my hands. This was done when all of my original blood work was done. No damage was evident. I guess my various rheumies haven't seen the need for more x-rays because they can look at my hands and see that they look normal now, except for one crooked pinkie which is crooked because of tendon damage on one side. Guest guest
In the year since dx, I've had my hands, wrists, shoulders, feet, ankles, hips and lower spine x-rayed. In addition I've had bone scans of my hands as well as a full-body bone scan, and an MRI of my hips. Most of those were done during the first few weeks, though the hip and spine stuff was done later. I'm now in a study on the long-term outcomes for peopelw with RA, and for the study, you get x-rays of your hands and wrists every 18 months. Don't know if that helps or not... > > Iam curious, how often and of what do you all have xrays? > I had xrays done within few days of an explosive onset of what is > suspected as RA (12/2004) and then again at 9 mos. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your response to my question concerning Xrays.. and thank you for the articles. It looks like there is no real standard for xrays as it seems to differ significantly for everyone. This is a great group..again thank you very much. Guest guest
Hi Beth, If it is the same xray they do to Maggie for her Osteogenesis Imperfecta stuff, a " bone Age " xray at the Childrens Hospital of Omaha, is just like any normal xray of her hand. (according to Maggie) I no longer go in for her xrays unless she asks me to, I have a feeling that more than likely I glow in the dark. She said the machine was the same, possibly the film is different or the way that they read them is different. But as far as the procedure goes.......to her it was just as if you were taking an xray to look for a broken bone. Sometimes, like in an OI kid, Maggie's age is 11 but her bone age is that of a much older person. In fact this is how they can tell if your child is done growing or not. Hopefully this helps you some. Guest guest
Hi Beth, is now two, and she gets Bone scans too. It takes a while to get all the pictures done. I brought a book, and stickers to help pass the time. It's good to know what bones are at high risk for fractures. has had osteoporosis diagnosed from a bone scan done at 11 months old. Best of luck to you and your daughter . I hope those bones are good and strong Lani & (poly JRA) > > Hi all: > Hannah's ped has ordered the bone density at our Children's Hospital. He said the protocol is to do a bone age xray first. Anyone know what this is? I'll be calling to set up the bone density this week, not sure how long the wait will be to get in. >  > Also so far all her labs came back normal. The only result I have not gotten yet is her Vitamin D level. >  > Beth & Hannah, 11, unspecified arthritis w/hypermobility; asthma; gerd; migraines; ulcers >  > Sending prayers & happy thoughts, > Beth > >
Guest guest
Beth, As Diane and has said. It is basically a simple xray. started having the Bone Age xrays when she was 1 yr old. The Growth plate in the Ankle and wrist are measured. By this was to continue to grow to age 21 lolol. The bone growth at that time also showed she would be 5 ft 4 inches tall. Due to the JA it stunted the growth process. She was labeled as Constitutional Growth delay. When the last one was done at age 16 her growth plate had fused. So no more growing for her. The bone density test is easy as well. Foot in the machine and it is painless. Measures the Ankle. One thing that is good about both test's is they are not invasive and they are quick. lololol. I had my first bone Density test at age 40 and so far so good with it. Robbin Robbin **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. Guest guest
Hey Robbin, Remember this is the test that Maggie's OI doc did on her in June that told him she was done growing at age 11. She would be 4 feet 11 1/2 inches......end of story!! We left Omaha that day with a devastated child who has only ever wanted to be 5 feet tall!!( thank God for Nike Shocks) After a few words of wisdom from you and she was in much better shape! Spending the majority of time in her wheelchair and for the past almost 2 months really only needing one shoe because of breaks...... I am not sure what the whole thing is about, but I guess to her it seems to be a very important issue. Silly Girl! Hugs from Iowa! Guest guest
Robbin, is 48 inches (4 FT) now - so he has had some growth in the last two years - but it has been minimal.? His height doesn't even register on the growth chart. He will be 11 in less than a month and his height is at the 50% for a 6 - 7 year old. He wears a youth small or x-small shirt and a size 6 jeans.? He started middle school this year - 6th grade and is doing quite well.? Did I already rant about his PE uniform for school?? I believe I did.? They come in adult sizes S through XXL,and they can order larger if needed - but not smaller.? His PE uniform fits me. I am getting the shirt shortened and will be buying plain blue shorts that look as much like the school uniform as possible. I thought he could be able to make do with the shirt as is?until I read that they must be tucked in?- there is no way all of that shirt will fit in his shorts. We had back to school night last night - which went really well, but he is in chorus and the uniform shirt that they order to wear for concerts and competitions only come in adult sizes - the one they had hanging in the chorus room will easily come to his?calves. I guess?we will cross that bridge when we come to it. Val Rob's Mom (10,systemic)? Re: xray question Val, How tall is Rob now? Robbin **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Guest guest
Val, Tell Rob he is doing Great with the growth. was like him and off the charts for a while. At 12 yrs old she was 79 pounds wet and the smallest still in her class. What I did to her clothes was ... Hemmed and resewed lololol. It was fun doing her clothes cause we put designs on them and the kid's really did not say much about the small clothes it was WOW where did you buy that? could only say well it is my own design lololol. I did her clothes on a 1887 Pump sewing machine lololol. So I could detail small areas. also wore boots back then and the top of the boots would be at her knees. lololol. Let Rob know did grow alittle more after she turned 11. I also know about the Adult clothes lolol. A Adult small well shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I have to wear the Youth Large. wears the Adult small as she has more to fill the shirt lolololol.
