My mother, her older brother ( very bad case of RA)

and Grandmother both had RA. Neither my mother or

grandmother were treated with either the DMARDS or the

new biologics. IN Grams case...it just wasn't done in

those days, and in my mothers she had a aversion to

taking pills and while everntually she may have been

talked into taking medication for it (as her feet and

hands were very red, swollen and painful) her heart

attack ended that option. My mother also had " wet "

macular degeneration in one eye an had the visudyne

therapy with such good results that a paper was

written about the success of her treatment. My

question is this: is macular degeneration heriditary

and where can I get one of those grids that you put on

the fridge to check your eyesite for the

condition...my mother had one to check her other eye

and I do not kow what happenend to it. Thanks ..........jenna

Jenna,

Nobody knows for sure yet, but some forms of macular degeneration are

believed to have a genetic link.

Here are a few good sources. Some have the Amsler grid that you may either

print or view.
