Guest guest
Hi June: Typical household type of accident - carrying a big pot of boiling water and pasta to the sink to drain. I had started to pour it out when my right grip gave and the whole thing poured over the top of my right hand before I could even jump back out of the way. Yes, it was very painful, but what really got me was when I stuck my hand back under cold water and my skin just sloughed off the top of my hand - yuck. I was shocked out of my complacency that I could still do this sort of thing - now I know that I do need to ask for help always. I usually do, but that night no one was around , so I decided to do it myself. Bad decision. My daughter rushed me to the urgent care that night, and has been taking me to my doctor for rechecks, and dressing and bandaging my hand twice a day. She has also been a great help with cooking, cleaning, etc., and I would be lost without her. What's hard is that I can't really go outside to be with the horses, and feed, water, etc., because this hand has to be kept basically sterile so that no infection starts up. I hope that I heal quick, but have been told it could be about 3 months before the wrap comes off. I truly sympathize with what you have had to go through. I think extremities are slower to heal because we move them - I can hold my hand up, but you need that leg! Do the doctors think the RA has slowed down your healing process? That was my first thought, the mtx and enbrel increasing the chance of infection, and slowing healing. Anyway, June, thank you so much for your kind words - my prayers are with you as well that your leg heals soon. Take care - Kathe in CA --- June Dixon <juner24@...> wrote: > I am so sorry you burned your hand so badly, must > have been very painful. > How did you get such a bad burn? Guest guest
Oh Kathe, that sounds so painful. I hope it heals quickly. Your daughter sounds like a real sweetie. I'm glad you have her to help you. a On Sep 8, 2006, at 4:08 PM, Kathe Sabetzadeh wrote: > > Hi June: > > Typical household type of accident - carrying a big > pot of boiling water and pasta to the sink to drain. > I had started to pour it out when my right grip gave > and the whole thing poured over the top of my right > hand before I could even jump back out of the way. > Yes, it was very painful, but what really got me was > when I stuck my hand back under cold water and my skin > just sloughed off the top of my hand - yuck. Guest guest
Hi Kathe, Ignore my question about how you burned yourself... I can see you already answered. That's horrible! I had a bad burn from boiling butternut squash many years ago, and it took ages to heal, even without RA or meds getting in the way. My OT person showed me this big spoon that looks sort of like an upside-down hand with a hole in the bottom that can be used for lifting pasta or veggies out of boiling water. She warned me not to even try to pick up a big pot of boiling water. (of course, I haven't listened to her all the time, but...<g>) > > > I am so sorry you burned your hand so badly, must > > have been very painful. > > How did you get such a bad burn? Guest guest
It's a spaghetti fork and it works very well! I don't pick up the pot of water and drain it anymore. I got tired of being splashed with burning water. For ravioli's I use a slotted spoon. Do yourself a favor and try that spaghetti server. It really is a great tool and my prevent you from a burn. a On Sep 10, 2006, at 8:59 AM, Randall wrote: > Hi Kathe, > > Ignore my question about how you burned yourself...
