Iam not saying this is it.. but I had these exact same symptoms when

I went low on B12. ( i had gastric bypass and the MTX and other RA

drugs deplete b12)It was pretty scarey just as you described.

The doctor should test Methylmelonic acid not serum B12.

It is easily treated with b12 shots or sublingual.

Good luck to figuring this out.

I have read here about flares but don't think I have seen any details. I read

about fibro fog also. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Hi Betty! I had the same symptoms....along with a couple others....my rheumy

says it's Lupus & Fibro. Once he put me on salsalate...2250mg daily...the legs

got better...they still ache & swell ...but not like before. I can walk now. I

still get brain fog...I hate that! Don't know if anything really helps that.

I'm on a really low dose of an antidepressant to counteract my hot flashes

(menopause) so I don't get as flustered when I can't remember why I walked into

a room or standing in the middle of Wal-Mart and don't know what I'm supposed to

be there to buy...I just try to make lists and not drive alone if at all

possible. I'm still able to cover it up to a point. My husband is such a

worrier...he has no idea how much it happens. He would never let me out of the

house if he did! But he works long hours & I don't want to stress him out any

more than he already is. I have found that a mentholated cream called

Theragesic is a good temporary fix! I don't care if I

smell like a big Vics bottle if it relieves the pain! ;>) Today my head hurt

so bad (which it does a lot) I would have rubbed some on my scalp if I thought

it would help! Instead, I took Aleve & an ice pack. What a waste of a day! I

have a lot of those! Very frustrating! ~Take care! ~ Sue in TN

Flares are when your pain levels shoot up from the normal range that you

have. Your other symptoms of fibro will increase as well. Flares can last

anywhere from a few hours (for a few people) to months (for a few people).

Most of the time, flares usually last a few days to a week or so unless you

continue to be under added stress or bad health.

Fibro fog, is when your brain gets foggy. I compare it to when you look

outside and see the weather is foggy. Some times there is heavy fog, but

not so bad that you can't see 6 houses to the end of the street, but nothing

beyond that. Sometimes, the fog is so heavy, you can't see across the

street. And that's the way it is with fibro fog too. Sometimes your brain

is a little confused, you might be having a conversation and are trying to

ask your hubby to move the clothes from the washer to the dryer, but fibro

fog strikes, so your words might sound like this. " Take the wet stuff

.......... it needs to go from the round thing to the hot thing. " or a

lesser case " Take the wet clothes from the washer and put it in the thing

that goes round and round. They need to get heated. "

You might not be able to do simple arithmetic or remember the name of your

best friend. Simple instructions such as " 1. open box and put the spaghetti

into the boiling water. 2. Stir occasionally. 3. Drain when the spaghetti

is done. " make no sense to you. Your brain just can't think. So they say

it's foggy. It's like it's a dog who is tired of walking so he just sits

down on his butt and refuses to go any further. Some times you're a little

confused and sometimes you're very confused. I find caffeine can help to

wake my brain up. I'm definitely more likely to be foggy if I'm sick or

tired.

Thank you for the article. I learned something and it

was interesting. My issue is I have had 2 blood serum

levels of B12 of less than 200 and 1 reading of 205

all in 3 years, yet the MMA was considered normal.

Thanks for all the responses! Today I am having major problems regarding my

brain function. I work full time in our business as a bookkepper and main desk.

Can't do it now. And I still have not closed out 2006 taxes.

I have been following the thread " am I going crazy " and wondering if those

answers would also apply to me.

Yesterday I read a lot about fibro fog and it sure sounds like my problem. But

that brings up another question. Can you have fibro fog when fibro is not in

the mix of autoimmine problems? Or if it is really fibro fog does that mean

fibro is one of the problems?

My rheum, which I will see next week has a tentative diagnosis of lupus and/or

scleroderma. She emphatically told me that so far she has not put a diagosis

but the letter to my referring GP said it was lupus

There are a number of medical problems that have " fibro fog " except it's

then called " brain fog " . So no, just being foggy doesn't mean you have

fibro.
