Guest guest
Hi all. I just got home from the hospital where my daughter had an appendectomy yesterday. She is due for her Humira and MTX injections tomorrow night. I have been advised to put these off for a couple of days to allow her to heal. I'm not sure if I should just skip the week and give her both these injections next Wednesday, or if I should wait until the weekend and give them then. If I give them, say Saturday, does Saturday become my new dosing day? Or can I give the shots again on Wednesday again next week? My rheumatologist is out of the country for the next two weeks. Thanks for your suggestions. Lori
Guest guest
Lori, sorry to hear about this latest development for (and you). Unfortunately, there aren't any strict guidelines about perioperative use of DMARDs and the biologics. On the one hand, you don't want to flare as a result of withholding the drugs; on the other, you don't want to risk the development of a serious infection by continuing them. And, obviously, this was a unexpected surgery, so she probably still had/has some fair amount of the drugs in her system. Isn't there another rheumatologist covering for 's rheumatologist who can advise you? Not an MD I'll tell you where to go!
