Guest guest
Gloria, Diet Coke really is awful for you. I have a friend who's bi-polar and was addicted to it. I swear to God, he had a number of hospitalizations that were attributed to drinking too much Diet Coke. It messed up his chemical balance so badly that it virtually nullified the effects of his medications. He was finally convinced 3 years ago to get off the Diet Coke and hasn't been hospitalized since. Pretty effective demonstration to me of how damaging it can be. Water may not give you the same kick but it's much cheaper and better for you. Hugs, a Peden Gloria M Tate wrote: > Uh oh I live on Diet Coke. My mother was " addicted " to Diet Coke (actually the first Diet Coke was " Tab, " I believe). She lived a healthy and happy life until she died in her 80's.... My father drinks diet Coke every day, (but not as much as mom) and he drinks Bourbon, and is a healthy 87. He sure is " healthier " than I am! I wish I had his health! Neither of them took a regularly prescribed prescription drug until they were in their 70's! Both of them had healthy parents who lived long lives, despite moderate alcohol and cola drinks. Pris (who doesn't drink colas or coffee, it's too stimulating!)!
Guest guest
Better yet, work toward freedom from the can entirely! Nothing's better than pure water. It's what human beings were meant to drink. The marketing professionals have put one over on us and made us addicts. A slice of lemon or twist of lime can make a glass of water special. If city water tastes of chemicals, a home purifier will solve the problem. Sierra > > > > I have to disagree with you. Losing weight can make a > HUGE > > difference. Guest guest
I have never been a soda drinker. All I drink is water and 1 cup of coffee in the morning. As for the weight loss, I have recently lost about 35 pounds and do not feel ANY different than I did before. I look better but feel the same it really is so upsetting. I still have about 50 pounds to go and hope with that loss my RA will be better. I am really jealous of those of you who feel better after weight loss. hope everyone has a pain free evening. sandie " snowdrift52003 " <snowdrift52003@...> wrote: >Better yet, work toward freedom from the can entirely! Guest guest
There was a man going around Texas telling his story of great loss of weight on his water diet. He claimed that one needs to drink 3 glasses of water with each meal. One before eating, one with the meal, and one after the meal. He lost a lot of weight, I forgot the numbers, but it proves that any diet plan will work for someone. There's also the woman in the news that died of " water intoxication " after drinking about 2 gallons of water without going to the bathroom. This was in response to a contest by a local radio station. Now they are in hot water for pulling that stunt and 10 employees lost their jobs. Water is dangerous, too! Guest guest
I used to drink great volumes of regular soda all my life. Then when I turned 45 and got the RA I switched to diet soda, still large amounts. Prior to surgery I switched to decaf tea, which I now drink hot since its so cold outside. I can tell you that I feel better, I have lost 20 pounds in the last several weeks and my blood work looks so much healthier. I think its the same as it all things, diet soda may be o.k. in small qty's but as with anything excess is where we fall into the danger area. My goal for 2007 is to acquire a taste for plain old water which I know will help with my continued weight loss and overall healthy feeling. Lastly I highly encourage those with pain to do some research and by trial and error find a routine that works for you. For the last week I have researched various exercises that I could do with my damaged foot and even for my less damaged foot. It hurt like heck when I started but today after a week of these exercises I have a managable pain level and where I was taking mulitple doses of pain med, today I took pain med only twice, a real improvement for me. I simply too exercises that I found and incorporated them to my abilities. I pray that this will work for you too. Patti (Chicago) " Taking it one day at a time! Guest guest
Before my colonoscopy, I had to drink about a gallon of Go Lightly, but I didn't have a short time period in which to do it. Different doctors have different protocols. My brother had to take pills, not drink that yucky Go Lightly. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing the information. I only drink one diet soda each evening and sip on one late afternoon. I use decaf tea, too. Debbie L
Guest guest
~ I am having the same problem with finding out why. I have heard that because of not being able to burp very well that it could stretch the pouch, and that is could cause band erosion (though I don't see how). I occasionally drink Diet Pepsi. I have not had a problem with it. In fact, it helps me burp. I was having some gastric pain, which the doctors thought could be gallbladder, and I thought the Diet Pepsi might have something to do with it so I only drink it rarely. I know this is not the " approved " answer, but I for one love my Diet Pepsi, and I felt the same as you. Some things are just too hard to imagine giving up forever. --- andreaearlemccorkle <andreaearlemccorkle@...> wrote: > Okay, so I know you're not suppose to drink colas of > any sort after > the band, but search as I do, I cannot find why, > other than wasted > calories, which with diet coke is less the concern. > I would assume it > is the carbonation and caff. but I was wondering if > anyone could share > with me why it is essential medically to never have > another DC again > after band life? > > I'm ready to give them up for a while, until I heal, > but do I have to > say goodbye forever?
