Hi April:

Welcome to the group! You're not alone any longer -

we are all here for you, and truly understand what you

are going through. When I have shoulder pain (and,

yes, this was RA related), I usually will use my rice

socks. If you don't know how, put rice (not instant)

into an old sock, just full enough so that it is

pliable, and then warm it up in the microwave for 2-3

minutes depending on your micro. The sock stays warm

for quite a while and molds really nicely to whatever

joint is painful. I even have knee-sock length rice

sock which I can drape over my shoulders and neck if

needed. You can add potpourri also for some nice

scent addition.

Also, heating pads, massage pads, hot showers all

work. Have you called your doctor about your pain?

There might be something he could give you to get you

through this flare a bit easier - something like a

burst of Prednisone or Medrol pack, or even pain meds.

What RA meds are you on at present, and for how long

have you been on your medication? Sometimes it takes

a while for the meds to kick in, and to find the right

med/combo of meds to work for you.

Hope this helps - pain is always present for me in

some degree, and we all have been where you are now.

Hang in there and hope your doctor can help you with

this -

The rice socks sound like a good idea. I think I'll make another one and

add some lavender to it. Great idea thank you for sharing!

Once I was given something similar that contained dried corn. I really

liked the way that worked better than the rice one I have now. I was

wondering if anyone might know what kind of corn is used? I'm thinking that

it can't be popcorn because I could put it in the microwave and it didn't

pop...... LOL

,

It was probably corn from a feed store...or farm

store..either for the cows to eat or to plant to make

corn grow..that kind tho I think is treated with

chemicals so it wont rot in the ground or because of

pests..so I wouldn't get that!! But corn to feed the

cows hould be ok. OR this would be the best, if you

have a Mennonite or Amish store near you they probably

have some kind of dried corn to put into stews and

soups...like dried beans and peas...that would work

too and thats where I would go if I had one near

me...they probably are online by now!!.I'm off to

search the internet for Amish stores..I will report back!!!...jenna
