Guest guest Posted December 19, 2000 Report Share Posted December 19, 2000 Hi Edie, I have been on MTX for about 11 weeks.I started out on the pill (10mg) then went to (15mg) injectable because I wasnt seeing any results. I have to say that I still havent seen any results. I am trying to stay positive. I see the Doc in January and will game plan the next step if I still have not received any relief. The only other thing I take is 2-4 Motrin a day. Guest guest Posted December 20, 2000 Report Share Posted December 20, 2000 I have been on the oral mtx for a year and 8mos. it took a real good five weeks on the first dose I was on which was 7.5mg before I felt ANY changes begin....as time went on I am on the final dose my rheumy will give which I have been told the max.....which is 17.5mg. I have been on mtx since sept. 7.5mg a week (3 pills once a week) I see no change at all. just cold sores which drive me nuts and sometimes i just take 2 pills a week to get rid of them! even the folic acid doesn't help. now reading other emails i can see that this is a low dosage in comparison to others. so maybe this is why it has not helped. i also take vioxx 25mg a day. some relief there. but i was still in alot of pain. my right elbow was the worst. also both wrists and some fingers. and it was very painful getting up and walking hurt also. well tuesday 2 weeks ago my doc started me on enbrel 25mg 2xs a week. after the first shot i saw a 50% improvement. now after a few more shots its about at 75% better. so i am hopeful. though i don't like the injections, i am almost back to my old self again. i don't see any improvement with the psoriasis though. well i hope i helped feel good ro Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I was started on 7.5 mg per week, then doubled the dose in 2 months, and now I'm weaned down to 7.5mg again since I'm also on Enbrel. Rheumy was trying to get rid of the MTX but left it alone when I saw him this month because I started breaking out in more P with a cut in dose and I have been having more problems with the PA trying to flare. It usually kicks in for me in about a week or so. Good luck! Guest guest Posted December 20, 2000 Report Share Posted December 20, 2000 I started on MTX 6 years ago; 10 mg. on Sundays, and it took at least 6 maybe 8 weeks before I felt different. But, Hallelujah!, one day I woke up pain free. This past year the disease started breaking through again and I assume that bumping up the MTX would just fix things like before. But we haven't been as successful this go round. However, MTX did give me five years I would not have had otherwise. Good luck!! Merry Christmas.
