Guest guest
Gail, When I was first diagnosed last year I was on 80mg of prednisone a day from may-october. Then the new doctor started tapering me by 10mg per week. It hurt so much with each decrease. I was having secondary side effects, Cushing's disease and alot of weight gain. I am currently on 20mg which was increased from 10mg since my surgery in march. I think the doctor's only see the long term effects not what coming off the drug does to our body. I hope you feel better soon Danni Tapering Pred I posted last week that I had to go back on Pred (20mgs.) and my doc told me to taper in a week. Monday, I went down to 15 and by Tuesday I was in so much pain I could hardly stand it. I went back up to 20 today but probably won't feel the results until tomorrow. My doc always wants to " quickly " get me back off them, but it never works for me. Anyone else had this problem? Guest guest
The rule of thumb is, " The lower the dose of Prednisone you are currently taking, the slower the rate of tapering. " If you are on 60-80 mg. per day, for a short time, you can probably drop 5-10 mg. every week or so until you get down to 30 or 20 mg. per day. On the other hand if you are currently taking 10 mg. per day, it may take a month or more to go from 10 to 9 mg. (in 1/2 mg. steps, and/or dropping dosage only every other day like 10, 9.5, 10, 9.5, 10, 9.5, 10, 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, 9.0, 9.5, 9.0, 9.5, 9.0, 9.5, 9.0, 9.5, 9.0, 9.5, 9.0, 9.5, 9.0,9.0, 9.0, 9.0, etc.). Slow as this is, it really has worked for me. More rapid tapering has not been successful. Cannon (Pred Vet) JCannon@...
