Guest guest
Burr, Sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time. I don't know much about spinal taps--hope someone in the group has some insight for you. in Maine > > Hello all, > Just wanted to check in. Last time I wrote I was going in for a spinal tap and other things to do with my brain stem. I think everything came out ok. Though since then I have not been well at all. I have had constant headaches, vomiting, and the worse thing is the dizziness. It is less today than it has been but I don't like it. It seemed like everytime I turned over in bed or moved the room would begin to spin. This did not help my other symptoms. I have also been exhausted. I have been staying in bed not caring if I have eaten or not. I would be awake for a few hours then asleep again. It is a total opposite of my not being able to sleep at all and dosing for a few minutes at a time. I am not sure of why or what to do. My prayers go out to all of you. and hope you do well. > Burr > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Hello Burr, I'm so glad to hear that spinal tap turned out OK. I am sorry that you are having a rough time of it though. How long has it been since you had the tap? I wonder if this is a side effect or allergic reaction to the tap? If memory serves me correctly, the symptoms of the tap are suppose to clear up within 12 hours of having the tap. It's been a long time since I have had one. Have you called your Dr. to tell him/her about what you have been going through? It might be wise to do this if you haven't already. It may be that the tap wasn't on the right mark and this is causing the problem. You may even need to go to the hospital if you are not improving. Please keep us posted, Burr. Continuing prayers for you. , Oregon > > Hello all, > Just wanted to check in. Last time I wrote I was going in for a spinal tap > and other things to do with my brain stem. Guest guest
, I had the tap done on the 6th and things got worse. I talked to my doctor yesterday and went in for xrays, ct, and mri. Apperently something happened and I am have a lot of swelling and stuff where they did it. so they numbed me up. They can't put me on any more pain medicine so they went straight to the sights and numbed everything. I am supposed to try to lie still and go back on Monday. Just one problem after another. well i am going to lie down. talk to you soon thank you Burr KC wrote: Hello Burr, I'm so glad to hear that spinal tap turned out OK. Guest guest
Hi Burr, Did your doctor mention anything about doing a blood patch after the spinal (also known as a lumbar puncture)? It isn't uncommon to get a very bad headache if the site doesn't clot and you have leakage of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). A blood patch comes from your own blood and may have two benefits. One is to replace any CSF leakage, and the other is to clot the site to stop the leakage. I'm glad to read everything was okay, but a lumbar puncture always carries risks. You may want to ask your doctor because your symptoms are not normal. I hope you feel much better soon! In Peace, Barbara Gardner Ventura, CA > > Hello all, > Just wanted to check in. Guest guest
Burr, I'm sorry you are experiencing this. If I remember correctly, this could be due to a leakage of spinal fluid. If you start to feel any worse go to the ER A.S.A.P. It's called something but my memory right now is failing me. Keep us posted on your condition. In the meantime, I'll be thinking of you and continue praying. , Oregon > > , > I had the tap done on the 6th and things got worse. Guest guest
Here it is, Burr. What I couldn't think of. Thanks Barbara for posting this--at the right moment. , Oregon > > Hi Burr, > > Did your doctor mention anything about doing a blood patch after the > spinal (also known as a lumbar puncture)? Guest guest
, I have a morphine pump implant for my back that gave me massive problems initially due to spinal fluid leaking. The pump is implanted in my abdomen with a catheter into the base of my spine. I had to lay flat-backed for 10-12 days before it healed. I think I may have had a glimpse of Hell in that time. The pain in my spine was incomprehensible, but the headache made that look like a walk in the park. Pain meds were damn near totally ineffective and the only sense of relief I had is when I would finally pass out for an hour or two out of sheer exhaustion. The back pain felt as if I could literally feel every single lump, space & vertebrae screaming in pain...and that was while lying still. I can't describe what it felt like to move or be moved even an inch. I think I can name myself an expert (from suffering) on ridiculously debilitating headaches as I have them almost constantly, but that one by far was miles ahead of all of the others save one. I would've gladly eaten a bullet if I had a gun on hand at that stage. That was one of the worst things I have ever dealt with in my life, and wouldn't wish it on anyone.
