Subject: Urgent Alert: Class Action Suits Threatened

Since the dawn of the consumer movement in the 1960s, perhaps the most

important tool of consumer advocates has been the class action lawsuit.

Today, the rules permitting class action lawsuits have come under attack by

corporate lawyers and lobbyists. The U.S. House of Representatives soon will

vote on a bill that would effectively revoke the class action rules in every

state by sending class action cases to federal court.

Any changes to the law that make it harder to file class actions make it

easier to cheat consumers. Please help us to defeat this cynical attempt to

aid corporations guised as class action " reform " . Your Members of Congress

need to hear from you.

Subject: URGENT ALERT: Class Action Suits Threatened

The corporate assault on the ability of consumers and workers to bring class action lawsuits comes to a head this week.

The U.S. House will vote on H.R. 1115, which would effectively revoke the class action rules in every state by sending class action cases to federal court. The Senate is expected to vote on a similar bill (S. 274) in coming weeks.

Defendants believe they will have a huge advantage over consumers in federal court. There it is harder to get a case approved for consideration, federal judges are more conservative in interpreting the law, and crowded court dockets will delay justice for months if not years.

That's why America's biggest companies and industries - insurance, banking, pharmaceutical, tobacco, auto, HMOs and more - are furiously lobbying for this legislation.

We need you to furiously lobby against this legislation!
