Woman awarded $40,000 over botched breast enlargement Lawyers for a Queensland woman who has won her case against her plastic surgeon for an unsuccessful breast enlargement says the judgment should sound as a warning. Queensland's District Court found surgeon Dr Warren Chan's pre-operation consultation with 35-year-old Anne was inadequate and failed to explain in detail the possible risks. Dr Chan has been ordered to pay $40,000 in damages. A case against the clinic where she had the procedure was dismissed. Outside the court, Ms 's legal representative, Horvath, says it was hard to put a price on pain. "But that's what judges have to do. They have to turn pain into compensation and that's how the system works," Mr Horvath said. "You look at other cases and you compare it to that and you could always argue that it's never enough but we have to put a figure on it somehow," he said. Friday 1 March, 2002
