Guest guest
Debbie, There are several natural and herbal remedies that can help with sleep. What works best for one person may not help someone else so you sometimes have to experiment to find the right one. Chamomile is a soothing sedative with no harmful effects and can even be given to small babies and children. It also is high in calcium and magnesium but also has potassium, iron, manganese, zinc, and vitamin A. Hops is recognized for its remarkable sedative powers. It is known as one of the best nervines in the herby kingdom. It is strong but safe to use. Its main uses are to alleviate nervous tension and promote restful sleep. Hops is rich in the Vitamin B complex. It also contains magnesium, zinc, copper, traces of iodine, manganese, iron, sodium, lead, fluorine and chlorine. Melatonin, an amino acid, is also helpful when sleep problems exist. I used it when I was working nights and had to sleep during the daytime in a busy hotel with lots ot daytime activity going on. It worked great for me. Those recommended by Dr. F. Balch are catnip, hops, lady slipper, passionflower, skillcap, and valerian root. I have taken most of herbs in capsule form so don't taste them at all. This dr also recommends eating foods that are high in tryptophane. At bedtime eat turkey, bananas, figs, dates, yogurt, tuna, and whole grain crackers or nut butter. A grapefruit half at bedtime also helps. He says the following formuls are safe effective and safe: Calcium Night from Source Naturals, Silent Night from Nature's Way Products, and Valerian Root Extract. Hope this information helps. > Do you know of anything to help with sleep? Another group told be > about Valerian root.
