I think that is insane.

Probably the main symptom of RA IS pain.

I would find a other doctor ASAP.

Our best advice it to first establish a relationship with a PCP.

Then, get a recommendation for a rheumy from him (or her).

It sounds like they don't " know " you. They want to pass the buck?

Doctors DO have to be careful these days.

But there are some doctors or dentists that just don't prescribe pain pills.

Period. I had to beg one dentist, who prescribed 6 mild pain pills finally,

after my head was swollen on one side like I was chewing a golf ball! I think

the younger you are, the more paranoid doctors are, if they do not know you.

To me, these doctors do not give a darn about their patients.

We have worked for years to get pain meds prescribed for pets.

Now, when we have a pb pig neutered, he adds on $25 for one pain shot!

And we are paying for the pig to be neutered to cut down on unwanted pet

pigs.

Go figure!

Yes mine does. She says I should go to a pain clinic but when I ask my

regular doc he prescribes me darvocet or loratab.

This sounds like Dr. in Delaware, who I saw a total of one time.

She told me (I came a whole 40 minutes into Delaware) that she does not

prescribe pain medicine to people like me...that if I needed pain medication

that I should go to my local family doctor or a pain clinic. It was the most

bizarre thing I ever heard. Here I had history from doctors, xrays that showed

bone on bone needs and when I asked what she can do for my pain she told me

that. I wasn't asking for Lortabs or Percocet...prednisone would have done.

Basically accused me of doctor shopping, so I was not pleased.

I think it is abominable that a doctor would do that, atleast a specialist who

I have seen one rheumy and he is the same way.

My rheum gave me Darvocet and Ultram for pain. Not very strong meds but

they do help me. When I have more severe pain, he tries to figure out

where it's from, like my former piriformis muscle pain. He gave me a

steroid shot for that. I don't have wide spread pain yet either. Just

the usual fibromyalgia pain.

My Rummy would only prescribe Ultram, nothing stronger, and it wasn't doing

anything to help me. My new/old Rheumy gives me morphine with no hesitation.

It all depends on the doctor. Maybe you should find an 'all in one' Rheumy.

They're taught how to address the pain.
