Guest guest
Roy... What a wonderful update. The beauty to me of the DS surgery is the return to an active life that allows one to participate in everyday activities once more and bring new energy to one's family and friends rather than taking away from it. Congratulations! Elle ** Update Well, with the immediate holiday craziness over I decided to spend a little time online and update the sites I visit. So here is my 5month post-op update. Since I had the surgery on July 25 I have become a different person. I now love to go hiking and walking with my family or by myself. We have taken up a new sport called Geocaching (www.geocaching.com) check out the website or post if you want more info... -- Roy

Guest guest
Glad you are doing well. I may end up with Dr. R. After all although it seems like a big hassle to me. anyway. I know Dr. O would not have been comfortable with me going up over 2.5 gr. I raised myarmour to 2.5 gr and haven't noticed anything really. I've had this a long time, so I am sure I will have to increase even more at some point THanks for the update steph
Guest guest
I have a question for all of you, when you say Armour 3 grains are you saying that in a total dose or 3 Grains twice daily. What is the most you have ever hear of anyone taking? Thanks,OM Shanti wrote: I think I mentioned that when I saw Dr. R in January he raised myArmour to 3.5 grains, and told me to raise it to 4 grains in 6 weeksif I did not notice an improvement. He also gave me an rx for Adderallto help with school, and kept me on the testerone and cortisone. Well, I went ahead and raised to four grains and started taking theadderall. I had to see my psychiatrist for the Adderall (I am onKlonopin now, sometimes). I was actually able to make it through a full semester (12 hours) ofmath courses despite the fact that last semester I barely made itthrough two art classes lol. Another thing I have noticed is that my fingernails have grownconsiderably longer and stronger. They used to break off as soon asthey would grow slightly long, now they are tough and don't evenbreak. Plus, my hair has grown quite a bit too. I am back on myvegetarian diet and I have lost about 10-15 lbs. I feel a lot better. I don't really like the side effects of the Adderall, but it helps meget focused in school. Right now I am at a point where I am SO CLOSEto graduation, I need that extra push. Also, I applied for a research position over the summer, and I gotit!! I will be doing research with one of the professors RE:Differential Geometry and Geometric Topology. Last year I wouldn'thave *dared* to apply for such a position, so I can definitely saythat my confidence has also improved. The only major problem that I am having is that I had to quit thetestosterone (side effects). MY periods are still as painful as everand very very heavy. I got TWO second opinions RE: my heavy periods/pain/endometriosis andboth said that I need more surgery, and that the fibroids MUST comeOUT! lol. They are a total of 7-9 cm so I guess causing considerablebleeding and pain. Dr. FRanklin thinks I have IBS and wanted me onLupron and I said no way. Guest guest
So good to hear from you, ! I would still say you are pushing yourself WAY too hard, but know how badly you want to get the school work completed. Sounds like your body has given you some signals that you are improving, which is wonderful, but those huge fibroids and endometriosis sound like real h*ll for you. You must be battling anemia all the time. I'm so sorry you haven't had any good relief. I had a friend who went through heavy periods and loss of stamina and got surprised with a really large fibroid and some smaller ones. She had to have a hysterectomy, but bounced back pretty quick and felt like a new person! Good luck with the research job. Geometry was about my favorite math subject. But I can't imagine it at your level!! 8-O. Hope you can get some time off for yourself - be selfish! Check back in when you can, and let us know how you are doing. Guest guest
That is a total daily dose. The highest dose I have heard of is 12 grains. There is a lady in Australia who takes that dose. I currently take five grains (300 mg) divided into two doses 12 hours apart. I was on 240 mg for a long time. It took me four years to get to this dose. What you may need is highly individual and should not be based on what anyone else takes. Guest guest
Sorry you are losing Dr. O, Steph. If you decide to see Dr. , I am confident you will find it worth the trouble of travel, time, and etc. I was still having an array of symptoms at 2.5 gr. I have been on 3 grains for about 6 weeks now and feeling the best ever. I realize everyone is different and not everyone requires the same dose, but just thought I would share and urge you to see Dr. R. Good luck! > > Glad you are doing well. I may end up with Dr. R. Guest guest
Roy, what a great post! Congratulations on the weight loss. And congratulations on the graduation date! I hate you! I have about a year to go before my BA in history is finished and my BA in music is finished. And then, hopefully I'll be credentialed for teaching social studies. Again, congratulations on the wonderful progress --- and it ain't over for you by a long shot - you have more weight coming off! I am in the middle of finals at Sonoma State. This is my final semester - I graduate on May 27th at 9 am with a BA in Liberal Studies and a BA in History. This semester has been crazy, I have 19 units as well as living 100 miles from school. I am also filling in as a substitute teacher. So things have been crazy to say the least (ok I repeated myself here, isn't that one of the signs of losing it) Thank you to all of you for all of your prayers and support during the last 10 months of this adventure. I am down 180 pounds total. From a high of 450ish to 270ish. I have not dropped much weight this semester, but I am still losing and feeling good. Thanks again for everything. Roy<>< PS I am not going to be able to make it to the swim party (I have a job teaching summer school all summer long with the exception of the last week in July) so since I will not be down for my one year at the time of the party I will have to pass this year. If anyone is going to be around on the 27th of july let me know and maybe we ccan get together for lunch. <><
Guest guest
Dear It's so inspiring to read your e-mail about yourself. There seems to be such a broad spectrum of functioning with PMG ranging from very severe disorders to quite mild. You say you take Tegretol medication to help control your seizure activity. May I ask what dosage you take. Is it anything 400 mg per day? My son is now 24 years of age and has PGM disagnosed at around 15 years of age. He is also profoundly deaf and no speech whatsoever. He understands very basic sign language but gestures a lot. He wears glasses and sees quite well with the glasses but not long distance. He doesn't seem to miss much going on around him is very sociable and loving. He is physically handicapped and walks with support and a little on his own, short distance indoors. His left side is worse than his right. He has tight tendons, Achilles and Hamstrings and needs lots of stretching exercises. He can swim by himself and can to some degree ride a special three wheeled bike. He feeds himself using a spoon and also finger feeds, but needs the food very soft because he doesn't chew. He does suffer from indigestion a lot and takes Zoton. We live in England so the name of medication may be different. He is very popular because he smiles so much and if very friendly and loves people around him. I looked after my son for 18 years and now he is residential accommodation in a special centre. I live nearby him so I see him twice per week and take him on holidays. I found the transition extremely difficult initially, but over the years have adjusted to some degree. Seizures have not been a big problem in 's life. He did take Epilim when he was young for three years, due to febrile convulsions when he was ill about 5 times. But last year he was very ill and in hospital, suffering from vomitting and 9 seizures and the decision was to put him on Tegretol because he did suffer from mild partial-type seizure activity on another 3 or 4 occasions last year. I was just wondering what your dosage was. also has Osteoporosis and has treatment for that by infusion 4 times per year. This is probably due to his lack of mobility compared to the normal population. He has a treadmill and uses it most days. He has physiotherapy and uses a standing frame etc. He loves swimming the best. He has never been a good sleeper. I tried Melatonin but it didn't really help. He doesn't take anything now. He does get tired. Of course none of us know what the life expectancy is of people that suffer from PMG probably depends on their related disabilities and how it affects their bodies. Obviously parents will be extremely encouraged to read your e-mail. It is wonderful to learn of someone like yourself suffering with PMG and yet obviously leading a near normal life. I hope you don't mind me replying to your e-mail. My name is Jane. Best wishes for now. Look forward to hearing from you. Jane and xxx update > Hey All .. Guest guest
In a message dated 11/1/2006 11:01:40 AM Central Standard Time, cmtssingleton@... writes: <<I have already been flamed by the national biomed folks for not screaming " Vaccines are killing our children " and for mentioning the dreaded ABA word. That's why I suggested that those with calmer, more professional dispositions give us some clear talking points that would take the " controversy " out of our appeal and bring it down to the basics. It's sooo easy to get sidetracked and emotional when we're fighting for our kids. Like the social skills lesson I was trying to teach my son who joined in the " Sam the Sham " chanting a few times -- when people scream, shout or attack, others get uncomfortable and turn away. When you present your case calmly, with clarity and dignity, people turn towards you and read your signs (listen to your message). When they understand your point, things can move forward. Monday was a great visual lesson in this since I was able to easily point out to him when people were reading our signs during the periods of silence and then how they'd turn away when the radicals would start shouting at them.
