Guest guest
I HAVE BEEN A NURSE FOR ABOUT 25 YEARS-AND EVEN THEN-IN THE BEGINNING OF MY CAREER THINGS WERE SO DIFFERENT--I KNOW SOME OF YOU ARE NURSES AND CAN RELATE.WHEN I FIRST STARTED NURSING DOCTORS CAME TO SEE THERE PATIENTS EVERYDAY IN THE HOSPITAL AND DID FULL ASSESSMENTS-AND TALKED TO THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES,NURSE ACTUALLY BATHED AND CARED FOR THEIR PATIENTS-WALKED THEM- LISTENED TO THEM-COMFORTED THEM-I EVEN REMEMBER SITTING BESIDE PATIENTS WHILE THEY WERE DYING AND SAYING MY PRAYERS WITH THEM. GONE ARE THOSE DAYS-THEY GAVE US NURSES SO MUCH PAPERWORK AND COMPUTER WORK AND INSERVICES-ECT....WE HAD 10 DIFFERENT DOCTORS FOR EACH PATIENT-THEY CUT THE STAFFING TO 1/4 OF WHAT IT USED TO BE--I COULD GO ON AND ON-THE NEW GRADS JUST WANTED TO GO RIGHT INTO ADMINISTRATION AND DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT PATIENT CARE.... WE HAD A FAMILY DOCTOR FOR 4 GENERATIONS IN OUR FAMILY AND BOY DO I WISH HE WAS STILL ALIVE...HE DID COME TO THE HOUSE IF YOU NEEDED...HE CAME TO YOUR WEDDINGS AND FUNERALS....HE COULD TELL WHAT WAS WRONG WITH YOU WITHOUT 100,000 DOLLARS OF TESTS....DIAGNOSED MY MOTHERS LITTLE BROTHER WITH LUEKEMIA AT 11 JUST BY ASSESSMENT BLOODWORK AND KNOWLEDGE. LAST TIME I SAW HIM WAS 5 YEARS AGO WHEN HE CAME TO MY GRANDMOTHERS FUNERAL- HE HADN'T SEEN ME IN OVER 15 YEARS AND STILL REMEMBERED EVERYTHING ABOUT MY LAST VISIT-EVEN MY MEDICATION!!! THEY DONT MAKE EM LIKE THAT ANYMORE,,,,,,,,,LYNN
