Guest guest
It depends on the state you live in. You do not have to pay back entitlement programs. That includes, Food Stamps, TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families), and Medicaid (The medical program ran by the individual states at the direction of the Federal government.) You may depending on the state have to pay back SSI, SSP, LTC Medicaid (LTC = Long Term Care in a nursing home) or General Relief (pure welfare). If you have to pay back any monies you are informed of it before you receive any benefits. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO READ ALL THE FORMS YOU SIGN. Some programs will have an actual lien for you to sign, some do not. If you are not sure of the policies in your state ask you worker or a representative of the Legal Aid Society, not your next door neighbor, not someone else on Medicaid. All situations are different and a different policy may be effecting them. You need to know how getting assistance, cash or medical, effects you. I have had too many honest folks stop much needed aid, because of listening to horror stories, instead of asking their worker. , almost 20 years working in the system and still learning about the differences and nuisances. I'll get off my soap box now. Thanks for reading. > >Dennis wrote > > Joyce, this part is only for those on Medicaid, not Medicare. If the heirs want to keep the property, they will be required to pay the amount owed or it will be sold for moneys owed.
