Dear Steph,

Daily recommendation for biotin is 300 to 500 mcg.

.. Vitamin B8 (biotin) :

Uses: Metabolism; production of enzymes; pH balance; cell growth; fatty

acid production; B vitamin utilization; nucleic acid formation; glycogen

formation; skin, nerves, bone marrow, gonads.

Sources : Eggs, soybeans, beef liver, legumes, brewer's yeast, whole

grains, sardines.

Best of Health!

Re: metric

Euwe, that's a LOT. They are saying to take 4000 mcg. of biotin for

candida? Can that be right?

I was reading information that said to take 4000 mcg.of biotin and

combine it with sustenex to kill systemic candida and keep it from

reproducing. Is that much biotin not safe to take then?

Dear Steph,

Probably it is ok, since it is water soluble and you will just pee it out.

But I don't see anything in its makeup or stated effectiveness that will do

anything for candida.

I would be looking at AgriSept, which is a logical candida killer.

I don't know what sustenex is.

Saul,

Various sites state that Biotin is either B7 or B8. I finally tracked down a

PubMed article stating that Biotin is Vitamin B7.

Apparently, Biotin prevents Candida albicans from transforming from its

relatively innocuous yeast form to its more virulent fungal form.

Best,

Saul, most of what I have read about candida (and I have all of the

books of course), say that biotin prevents non-harmful yeasts from

becoming harmful and invasive. It further says that taking at least 5

or more milligrams daily will cut the transformation cycle from the

yeast to the fungus form. In normal health and a low sugar diet, a

primary source of biotin is the healthy bacteria in the intestinal

tract. Because these are often compromised by a candida albicans

overgrowth, candida sufferers are particularily prone to a biotin

deficiency. From " Candida, The Symptoms, The Causes, The Cure " by Dr.

Luc DeShepper. In order to avoid the spreading to the bloodstream, and

thus giving the opportunity for the yeast cells to invade almost all of

the organs, the interruption of the vicious cycle by supplimentation of

at least 5 milligrams of biotin daily is a must and a priority " . This

link is from a google search for biotin and candida albicans.

All I want to know is, how safe is it to take THAT MUCH biotin every day

and for how long???

Saul, Sustenex is the brand name for a spore bacteria, bacillus

coagulans or lacto. sporogenes. It survives on the shelf for years and

being in spore form, survives stomach acid as well so is supposed to be

a better probiotic than most for that reason. And, beleive it or not

Ripley, Walmart actually sells it!!!

OK, now what is AgriSept??? Never heard of it before. I would HATE

to miss out on even ONE candida killing product LOL. Not as if any one

thing is going to work mind you 8:>)

Hi Saul.

I will get the citation for you, but it won't be right away, as we are

moving. If I haven't posted it within several weeks, give me a nudge.

Nenah

Re: Biotin

Dear Nenah,

Do you have a citation for that? I can't find anything regarding biotin and

candida.

Best of health!

Dear Steph,

5 milligrams is 5000 micrograms.

It is a lot, but I don't think you can overdose on it.

An excess would be urinated out.

However, I have not seen anything that says that biotin acts beyond the

intestine. In the intestine, biotin apparently works against candida, as it

is produced naturally by bacteria living there (hopefully they are there).

That would be part of the checks and balances system along with acidophilus,

apparently. Candida is a normal intestine denizen, and is beneficial when

there in the correct amount.

But once candida has escaped the intestine, does the oral biotin have any

effect? I still haven't found anything on that.

Best of Health!
