Guest guest
, When I had my explantation my implants were 16 yrs. old. The P/S said I was at a 70% rupture rate & that the rate increases quite abit more every year. He also said they're going to see alot more of these in the next few years. When I think about the pain I was in just due to the rupture last March, and all the (unnecessary) tests the doctors did on me to find out what was causing the pain it makes me want to keep trying to get other women to come forward. My insurance company shelled out close to $12,000 just for TESTS before they found out it was my silicone implants. That did not include the actual surgery to remove them. I know. The only lucky part for me is the fact I had insurance to cover this. 3 years ago I had very minimal health insurance. Most of the insurance companies will pay for explantation due to ruptures now, but think how many people had to pay themselves. Our brochures said they lasted a lifetime. I think the doctors should not have charged to explant & the manufacturer should have refunded the money or offered an exchange(if you wanted one). When women get implants now, do you know if they have to sign a consent form releasing manufacturer of any future health liabilities? When I went in for explantation, I had an " exchange-implant form attached to the explant form that had a list of associated symptoms for implants on it. It also went on to state " There is a possibility of unknown risks associated with silicone breast implants. " I was shocked when I read through all this " new " information given to me. And at the bottom of the pages it said " revised 01/97 " . To think that this information was available in 1997 and it was now 2001, and I had not been notified by anyone about this was unbelievable to me. Also included in this were the words " Breast implants cannot be expected to last forever. " Another shock that I wasn't notified of this change in plans. I don't know why the lawyers can't get them for not contacting us to tell us that the implants would NOT last a lifetime like it said in the brochure. Again, I bring up the recall on tires; At least they were responsible enough to back their defective product so it wouldn't harm anyone else. I will not buy any Dow product again. I work for a huge company...I think I will ask if I can write my story for our Intra-house news letter telling more people to come forward if they have implants( & symptoms) & also ask not to buy any Dow products. Hey, at least it's a start..I'm trying. I " M not afraid to let people know I HAD implants because I actually look ( & FEEL) better now that I don't have them. People around me at work have told me this. Thanks for listening
Guest guest
Oh man I paid $10,000 for my explant not to mention the $5600 for the implants themselves and then the extra $$$ for testing, Dr's etc etc the list goes on, not to even mention pain and suffereing involved. I am like you I so want to spread the word to get it out there, to help others to get women to come forward, but I have been feeling like I am banging my head up against a wall all the time, with women who write me, they tell me one minute they are having all these symmptoms and then later they say well, no I do not believe it is the implants, it is a major source of frustration for me in my work to help, educate and support this cause. I am not a nurse or DR but I am pretty educated on this issue and believe me I have been just totally hacked on by so many women telling me how I am so anti BA and that I don't know anything, it is distressing to say the least. Anyhow I just feel so much like you however, I am not sure how we can get others to come forward, as I said some women will do anything to hang on to the fake boobs, even if they have to take tons of meds and suplements and whatever else they do they will do it to keep the boobs, all I can do is try to help those who come to me for help. I am concerned about Angelika right now, and the bacteria issue, I am so happy she got the implants out, man I am afraid, mine were yellow, I know they were full of garbage, no wonder I was so ill. I need to find a lawyer, someone who will help us, but since we had saline we are pretty much exempt from this issue, yet we were duped as much as all the other women, silicone and saline, all the same in my book.
