Hi Ladies,

For those of you who have these keloid scars, you need to get some 'Mederma'

(OTC) and some 'strong' vitamin E capsules. Alternate hard massaging of the

scars with the Mederma and the broken-open capsule oil --- this may take

several months to break it all down. If this doesn't help significantly,

then you will have to decide whether to have the scars removed, or to live

with them. My daughter heals in keloids, and her explant scars will have to

finally be removed by surgery, although she reduced them significantly with

Mederma & vitamen E massage. Your PS should have told you these things!

Blessings,

MM

I know it's probably too late, but I was going through lists of ps that come recommended, and there is a doctor in Mesa, AZ that is on this list. His name is Dr. Carl Hiatt. Did you happen to see him? e

Hi e.

Thanks for the info on Hiatt. I had heard from a friend that he does not do good

mastopexies and the scars are bad. I don't know the accuracy of this info as I

have not personally met Hiatt or his patients.

Take care,

-Marie

-Marie,

This is good info to know. He is down on the " list " of acceptable ps', so

maybe we should try to get more info about him. I was just going through my

folder of BI stuff, and came across the list, and immediately thought of

you. I wonder if there are any other women out there who have been worked

on by him that we could get feedback from? If he does that bad of a job,

maybe he should be eliminated from the list. Do you know if he supports us

and believes implants cause harm?

I think Patty had Dr. Hiatt as a surgeon. She recommended him to me.

Hi e:

I don't know Hiatts beliefs on implants. A friend of mine in AZ did not like him

when she consulted with him and I heard from another friend who's friend was

explanted and given a mastopexy that he botched the job and her scars look

awful. This was enough of a turn-off for me. I think we need to find out more

about PS before recommending them on a list. Your doc is obviously good though

and Feng too.

Take care,

-Marie

Hi -Marie,

I don't know, I don't remember really discussing the issue with her. I

would email her and ask her what her thoughts are of dr. Hiatt.

Actually, Dr. Karl Hiatt was my explanting plastic surgeon in 1998,

and I can say from personal experience that he is a very good

plastic surgeon, a caring man, has a very caring nurse, and is very

knowledgeable about proper explant procedures. He has done more

explants in the state of Arizona than any other plastic surgeon,

performs explants en bloc, and understands how very important it is

to remove all scar tissue (doing a " total capsulectomy " ). My

operative report indicates that a total capsulectomy was done, and

at my appointment to remove the stitches, I asked him again if he

did a total capsulectomy, and his reply was, " That's the only way to

do it. " He did not use drains.

He also recognizes that implants can cause disease, advising me to

see a rheumatologist for my symptoms. This was at my first

appointment with him, in which he told me that if I were his wife,

he would want those out of me.

His efforts to have my insurance cover my explant were successful--

it was a done deal in less than 2 weeks. It was also apparent to me

that he cared more about my health than the money he could make.

Dr. Hiatt is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

His wife is a nurse and they both have participated in medical

missions abroad, and have lived in South America.

As for the final results, I am satisfied with the way my breasts

look. I had a lift at the same time as my explant. It is true that

I have scars in the crease of my breast from the en bloc removal,

and perhaps if I had gone to Dr. Feng, I would not have these

scars. Dr. Hiatt used an anchor technique rather than a lollipop.

Perhaps he had not been trained in the newer technique, perhaps it

was not well known in early 1998. However, considering the

circumstances of my situation, Dr. Hiatt was an answer to prayer and

a blessing to me. I don't think I could have asked for anything

more. For me, he was an excellent plastic surgeon for explant.

Thanks ! I have a good feeling about the PS I'll be seeing next week. He fixed up my friend after she was botched. Also he was so kind to take an hour to talk on the phone with me. How many docs will bother doing that? Not many I imagine.-Marie
