Guest guest
HI Dennis, I use capsacin creams sometimes. But they burn when it's too hot outside here. So I don't want to buy the capsacin patch yet. Too strong for me. Debbie L > > There are 2 creams that can do some of what the patches do, Zostrix and > Capsazian (sp) creams. Guest guest
I had a badly inflamed elbow (soft tissue injury from basket weaving) years ago, which took forever to heal. The trouble with elbos is that it is almost impossible to rest them! After hving it injected several times, with minimal results, I started using Capsacin. I don't know whether it was the docot or someone else who told me, but I was told that the " trick " to using it effectively, without hurting yourself is to build up slowly. At first I used the lowest concentration, and just a very light coating, once a day. When I was up to 3x per day without it bothering me, I went to the stronger formula. Doing it slowly, it was never unbearable, though I had to watch how hot my shower water was, and I always wore gloves (or used the ind in a daubber bottle) so I didn't get it on my hands. The good thing about it is that if you DO build up a tolerance for it, the reason is that you have actually temporarily deadened the nerve endings in that area, which is what also relieves the pain. It's just like Thai people who can eat food that would have our ears smoking... their mouths have become deadened to the " hot " of the peppers. (which is the souce of capsacin) I don't think the menthol stuff like Icy-Hot work the same way. They are soothing and can make you feel better when you use them, but they don't actually deaden the nerve endings. BTW, my elbow did eventually heal, but like a lot of soft tissue injuries, it was probably 2 1/2 years before I stopped having trouble with it, and in the mean time, capsacin saved me a lot of discomfort. > > > > Cayenne pepper is used in the salve.
