TV--I think I get my share of iodine. I use it alot with the goats,

dipping navels etc. With them you can paint under their tails on the

bare skin. The faster they absorb it the more they need it. If when I

get it on me, and I absorb it quickly, I paint alittle more on myself.

That's not the way it works. You don't get dietary iodide from

painting iodine on your skin or on the skin of a goat.

Hi Donna, I've been wondering about this painting of iodine...it didn't seem like that would be effective. According to DC Jarvis, doctor in the 60's, in " Arthritis and Vermont Folk Medicine " (or the other way around), he recommended one drop 3 times a week of Lugol's (made for internal use)......which is quite a bit when you think about it. I did that for several years and now just take it when I see deficencies coming.......benefits have been remarkable, from healing of tooth infections, no colds, warm hands and feet, more energy, feeling stronger and more able to " weather " things.....like stress......(and insect bites) .and on the side, according to government sources this is the first response (and maybe the only one?) to radiation poisening.......

neglecting the importance of iodine, especially for children and young adults who still have a huge thyroid/thymus gland.......shows a fantastic ignorance of our western medicine.

Charity,

Here is a good article from the Weston A. Price foundation site:

http://www.westonaprice.org/basicnutrition/mineralprimer.html

Do a page find (it's Ctrl-F in many browsers) for Iodine, it's partway

down. Good sources are unrefined sea salt (as opposed to Kosher

salt--I buy Celtic Sea Salt in both coarse grains and ground for the

table) and sea veggies like kelp. I also eat lots of wild-caught

salmon roe for the iodide, because I'd read somewhere else on the WAP

site that in traditional societies they load up on it in the 6 months

prior to marriage (and thus pregnancy).

I wonder if that's why I'm having troubles getting pregnant. I only

switched to kosher salt about 4-5 years ago.

Charity,

I can't find the article I'm thinking of (maybe it was in a book, or

maybe I misremembered it being about iodine specifically), but fish

eggs (among other things) are good pre-pregnancy foods regardless,

check this article out:

  • 1 year later...

I appreciated the posts about the Iodine issue and that the Feds have

curtailed our use of a more powerful solution but I happen to have a large

bottle labeled as STRONG IODINE SOLUTION ! which ingredients are listed as

Iodine (I) . . . .4.5 to 5.5 g/100mL and Potassium Iodide (KI) . . . . 9.5

to 10.5 g/100mL and I can see that this is much stronger than what we can

purchase presently.

So I wonder if someone can recommend a daily dosage for me when using this

stronger solution, please. Obie.
