Guest guest
Ingredients For Potpourri If you are interested in making your own potpourri, the best way to start is to gather rose petals from fully open roses just before they would have dropped. This will be the main ingredient for your potpourri. The flowers and scented herbs you need can be dried in an airing cupboard, or some other warm, dry, dark place. Experiment with flowers from your garden to see what others can be added to the mixture, such as cornflowers or marigolds, to give it color and variety, even if those flowers have no scent when dried.Lavender, rosemary, peppermint or spearmint, clove carnations, lemon verbena, bergamot and other well-scented flowers are excellent to blend into potpourri. Orris powder will keep the scent of the ingredients from fading too soon. Also try drying orange, lemon, or tangerine peels to add to the mix. Grind up some of the peel, and leave other pieces whole for texture. Store your potpourri in a covered jar, opening it when you wan! t the fragrance to lightly scent a room.- Carla Joy
