Forgive And Forget Forgiving yourself and others may have healthy benefits, according to the results of a survey of 1,400 adults published in a recent issue of the Journal of Adult Development. Study results indicated that forgiveness is associated with decreased psychological distress. This included decreased feelings of hopelessness, nervousness, and restlessness. On the other hand, asking for forgiveness rather than granting it was found to be associated with increased psychological distress. Another finding in this study was that attending religious services was associated with decreased psychological distress among young and middle-aged adults and increased life satisfaction among older adults. It was also associated with higher self-rated health among participants of all ages.- M. Ellman
