Guest guest
I have been experiencing lately too but don't know why. Very concerned. Looking forward to other responses for possible reasons why. Dizziness Hello to all! I am brand new to the group, but have had fibro since 1993. I was diagnosed in 1995. Recently, I have been having dizzy spells. I went through several tests for my heart and blood and all checked out okay. Has anyone experienced this? Guest guest
I get dizzy spells all the time. Firstly, it IS one of the symptoms of both CFS and FM. Secondly, my doctor said that in my case it is low blood pressure. Low BP is easy to detect, just take your blood pressure regularly and keep track of it. Guest guest
I was diagnosed with CFS and mild fibro in 2004 following a diagnosis of Tardive Dyskenesia. I think that is what sent me over the edge. I had been taking amphetamines prior to this which were supposedly to correct the energy problems of depression. In any case, since amphetamines can worsen or cause Tardive Dyskenesia (a movement disorder in my case caused by a withdrawal from an antipsychotic I was taking not for psychosis) I had to stop taking these. I haven't worked since. Right from the beginning I have had severe dizziness, nausea, and lightheadedness when standing and walking. I have been to a number of specialists and everyone just ends up concluding it is the CFS as they can't find any other cause. The symptoms definitely worsen the more tired I get. At this point I have moderate fibro I guess, mostly in my hands and arms making it hard to use them. I finally purchased a scooter so that I can do stuff, when able, and not have to worry about how sick I will get. Sandrea
Guest guest
Wonder if the spells are due to the weather? Sometimes when the barometer is changing I get dizzy spells (change of seasons, weather disturbances). Does anyone else experience this? Guest guest
Hi Sandrea, I just got a scooter too after 20 yrs. of pretty severe ME & fibro (also MCS IBS, you name it!), I'm still getting used to it, but it is opening up my life quite a bit. I'm still often too cog/impaired to use it though! But, on good, sunny days, how lovely to do my shopping and errands and enjoy it, and not be in bed for 3 days after. I wish I'd got one years ago. The main impediment is people's attitude that I am " giving up " , even though I could only lurch about with a cane and knee braces for about an hour x1/wk before a total crash...so, scooter power to you! Guest guest
My dizziness is not blacking out. I don't even think it's the room spinning. It's just a mild dizziness, especially when I move. It has happenened only a few times so far. I feel unsteady and it is less if I am sitting down. I have checked my BP when having one and it's normal. (My cardiologist suggested this also.) Thank you. Crystal
Guest guest
K2, I also have very low blood pressure and tend to black out easily, especially upon standing. I find that by increasing my salt that it helps. English Re: Dizziness I get dizzy spells all the time. Firstly, it IS one of the symptoms of both CFS and FM. Guest guest
I also experience dizziness. Sometimes it seems it is just from low blood pressure, other times it seems neurological. I often wonder about this too!
Guest guest
I have lots of dizzy spells and Vertigo also, I hate it, it makes you feel so sick, turning in bed is the worse as it feels like the whole bed is moving and the whole room is spinning. I haven't been allowed to drive for a year now, due to the FM symptoms, frozen shoulders, cervical surgery (due to Spinal Steonosis), dizziness and Vertigo. It feels like all our independence has been stolen from us The funny thing is that some doctors will not accept it as a FM/CFS symptom. Cheers everyone, lets just try to smile for a little while, we cannot cry and be angry all the time even if we want to be. > > I also experience dizziness. Guest guest
I have heard about this from others and experienced it myself....are you perhaps on any medications that may have this as a side effect? Sometimes starting a new med, changing dosages, or weaning off of a med can do this. And I know - many of us are on or have tried so many different meds. The steriod packs (prednisone) do this to me everytime. A friend of mine weaned herself off of one of the SSRI (anti-depressants, but can be used in treatment of FM/CFS type issues for many things ) a little too fast and was dizzy and spacey - felt like she was in a tunnel was the way she described it. How are you with drinking fluids? You could also be mildly dehydrated. Just another thought or two if these possibilities haven't been mentioned by others yet. Guest guest
Dizzy by room spinning, pressure from neck to top of head, especially in frontal region & very brief, maybe only seconds, impairment of hearing & vision. Guest guest
my dizziness NEVER goes away since September, I dont know what to do. Seen so many doctors already. Some say it is brain problem that does not show up on MRI. Others say ear problem based on tests but treatments have failed. Crystal Collopy wrote: My dizziness is not blacking out. Guest guest
Hi, ! Reading your email was like reading a page from my life. I am sorry you experience this too. Is there anything you've found that helps your dizziness? What medical tests have you had for it? Guest guest
I wanted to mention that when my awful ex-rheumatologist put me on mega- doses of Vitamin D and calcium is when my dizziness began. It was so bad I was afraid to drive or walk my dogs for fear of falling or crashing the car. I stopped the vit D & calcium, and now I just take whatever is already in my multivitamin. She had prescribed Vit D & Calcium because she insisted I DON'T have FM or CFS, and my pain was due to vitamin deficiency. Well, it didn't help with the pain AT ALL, and I have every symptom of FM and CFS, both. And I am not deficient in Vitamin D or calcium -- never was. In fact, I am in less pain now than I was in when I was taking the mega doses. I digress. Just wanted to point out that the Vit D made me dizzy. I still get dizzy now from the low BP, but not like when I was on the Vit D. I was falling off balance all the time and the room going black, severe ringing in ears, fainting stuff like that. Somethin' to think about. I thought mine was a neurological problem. K2 > my dizziness NEVER goes away since September, I dont know what to do. Seen so many doctors already. Guest guest
Hi, P.J! What a relief to know that we're not alone, I'm sorry to hear you have this lovely combination too, I do not wish these symptoms not even to my worse enemy. And then I get people like my brother that tells me " get over it, it's about time you start to get better, do you want us to believe that you're still sick " . Those comments hurt me so much, and there is nothing I can do to convince him that I'm sick, I have tried to give him information about FM and the rest, but he will not accept it. Why do people react so badly when someone has been sick for a long time? Never mind! I had 2 MRI done and a cervical angiogram; the results on these 3 tests were mostly related to my cervical problems, the brain shows normal. Some Drs said that vertigo is a Fibromyalgia Symptom and there is nothing they can do to help it, some others don't believe it's. I had also a test done to see if there was something wrong with the crystals in my ears (never hear about this before), but they were normal, during this test they shake your head so much, that you feel really ill after. The only thing I take for the dizziness is Stematil, I do not know if you have it in the US. Sorry it's a bit long. Guest guest
Hi , I don't discuss my illnesses anymore, not even with my family. I've decided that they either accept me as I am in a loving way as family should, or not - their choice, or their loss. There is a treatment for dizziness, if you can lay down flat. I tried it, and found some relief at first, but I cough if I lay down past about 40 degrees (I sleep sitting up), so I couldn't do it. And I try again from time to time, although my self-therapy now is just trying to lay flat for a few minutes just to help clear my lungs. Let me know if you want to know the treatment procedure. Guest guest
Morning, I was VERY symptomatic with very low BP when I relapsed, and as I do not have good medical support I have to find my own solutions. Increasing my fluids and salt did nothing, so I researched and found that nicotine is one of the only things to treat it. I tried nicotine gum, which still didn't work, so, in desperation (and you're going to think me crazy), on the idea that sometimes the whole herb with it's complex cofactors can have a more theraputic effect, I actually started smoking about 3 organic (no 2,000 toxic added chemmies) cigs a day...over several months this has completely corrected the problem with the BP. Strange but true...(LOL) Aylwin
Guest guest
Not sure if sinuses separate issue but have recently stopped taking anti-depressent which I've seen other posts maybe issue too. Also, adrenals have been issue for me for a very long time. Not sure about low blood pressure though since I've always been high blood pressure or at least that's what medical field said. Lost faith in medical dr's & switched to advice of natural healers. Currently stopped taking all prescriptions & otc meds temporarily to do a 3-4 week immune system boost but still taking St. 's Wort for depression since can't handle empty home w/no husband & step-kids. Guest guest
, How did you get off anti-depressants? Were there major withdrawal side- effects? I skipped a dose accidentally one night, and man I paid for it for two days. It was horrible. I wonder if I'm supposed to stay on these things " forever " or does the doctor eventually tell us not to take them anymore? I take Trazodone, for sleep, but it helps with other stuff, too. K2 have recently stopped taking anti-depressent
