Guest guest
I'm on an anti-depressant called Effexor. If I skip a dose I feel dizzy and sometimes nauseous. Wicked headache, too. My psychiatrist (for whom I have a great deal of respect) told me that the Effexor is out of your system in about 12 hours, but it takes up to 10 days for the brain to physiologically adapt to not having that additional chemical in the system. If you feel you don't need to take the anti-depressant anymore, the way to do it is to taper off very slowly, over a period of several weeks. On the other hand, if the depression is due to a lack of a particular chemical in your brain, then taking anti-depressants might be a lifetime thing, like diabetics need to continue taking insulin. Guest guest
Thanks Marcia, I'm in Mass too. I'm out by Worcester, in " fahm country " in the Brookfields. I spend my summers on Cape Cod -- can't wait!!! Not much longer now. Where are you? My PCP prescribed the Trazodone at bedtime for sleep-regulation and pain, not for depression. Although there have been side benefits such as a better mood and appetite suppression. Weird, though, even though the appetite is suppressed, I gained weight. Ugh. Thanks for the info! Guest guest
Personally my dizziness has subsided quite a bit in the last couple of years. If I push just a little too hard, or get stressed out (which is so easy in our position) then I get that dizzy, drunken feeling again. Once I get rested up a bit (who gets REALLY rested?) it subside again. I am SO SORRY about your husband . This has been very difficult in my marriage also and I hope you have support at home, besides what you get here. Take good care and hope you have better days ahead! Guest guest
, I have never been on a diet in my life and have been fairly thin, even after giving birth 2x. I am now at least 15lbs overweight and also don't feel that I over eat. I guess it is because I have had to spend so much time in bed or sitting. I am thinking of doing a 2 day detox diet, maybe that will get me jump started. BTW the weight is all around my middle, its like I have an inner tube around my waist, UGHHH! Guest guest
Hi, Well I have always been skinny, even after having the 3 children I was immediately back to my prebaby weight but now............I have put on 3 stone!!!!!!!! It seems that different medications the doctor puts me on put on weight as well. They recently put me on anti-inflammatories and I put on 7kg in a short time so I went off the medication. It would be nice if the weight went off just as quickly but oh no...............I have managed to get rid of 4kg the other 3 seem very happy with me. The doctor told me to lose weigh....blah....not like we can go out and do jogging or aerobics. A few yrs ago I tried the aerobics...well I paid the price for that bit of stupidity lol. Now they are wanting to put me on steroids for the Lupus. I told the Rheumo that he just wants to be able to roll me into the surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I find it extremely frustrating and my new doctor is not very sympathetic, guess I will have to look further afield for someone else. sigh. Guest guest
Hi , it's better, especially if you are in your 40's/50's, to have a bit extra than be too thin (speaking from personal experience), it's the body fat that hold and mediates the estrogen, making the whole menopause easier. Forget the beauty pageant (joke) and go for good nutrition. Aylwin , I have never been on a diet in my life and have been fairly thin, even after giving birth 2x. Guest guest
Weight around the middle is very characteristic of adrenal troubles, such as adrenal fatigue which is a way big factor for most of us with this illness. Sandrea

Guest guest
Adrenal fatigue is causing by us using up so much of our body's cortisol that we have basically used up our adrenals. This is why they say we should stay within our current energy envelope. Some days that means 2 minutes, others 10 min. If you overuse the amount of energy you have then you need even more rest to catch up. Some people have used up so much they are bedridden. So, one of the best things to do is to let your adrenals heal by providing as much rest, good nutrition, less stress type stuff. There are a variety of supplements that are useful in supporting the adrenal glands as well. There are two tests for adrenal issues. One, a blood test given by medical doctors. This method tests your cortisol level as one finite point in the day. You basically need to have your adrenals completely not working and then you have 's disease. Short of that the MDs don't acknowledge adrenal issues. There is also a urine test that measures the cortisol level 4 times during the day. This is considered more accurate. When I did the blood test I was fine. With the urine test what showed up is that overall I have an okay amount of cortisol in my system, however not when I need it. Evidently you are supposed to have higher levels of cortisol in the morning and mid-day, and lower in the evening, night-time. My cortisol is extremely low in the am and mid-day, and peaks in the late afternoon/evening and midnight. So, no wonder I have sleep problems and have a really hard time during the majority of the day. I've tried different adrenal support supplements. None have helped all that much for me, but they affect different people differently. Adrenocort is a very popular one. Sandrea
Guest guest
Hi Sandrea, Wow, you know more than I about it! But, I am of the opinion that NOT all our post-exertional malaise is just from adrenal exhaustion. Lots of folks deal with adrenal issues that don't have ME. There are significant issues with muscle metabolism and Oxygen to the muscles & brain etc.etc. Having said that, I am on a good adrenal supplement, it's Canadian (so I don't know it you can get the brand, Biomed ASF). It has: Siberian ginseng, licorice, arctic root (100 mg ea.) 200 mg Vit. B5, and a bit of Vit.C. I take 2/day and I really think it is contributing to the oh so gradual pickup I seem to be in. Now to add to my huge pillbox some Co Q10, and perhaps some other amino acids! Just a note of cheer for everyone, here it is sunny and early spring, mellow light blue sky, fresh breeze. It's been a hard winter, so this feels extra-lovely. I have all the windows in my teeny cabin open and I managed to dust and do the floors, AND brush my dog! Now I'm gonna (OK well have to!) mostly veg out and enjoy the fruits of my labours, cook dinner, listen to the gals on Am. Idol (my guilty pleasure) tonight! Cheers, Aylwin
Guest guest
Dear GR, I would urge you to get a blood pressure monitor, you BP is likely extremely high, classic symptoms, and having your BP checked once a year is a joke, it changes all day long...Dean > " Lately I've been really stressed and am having some issues with > vertigo, dizziness and a feeling of pressure in my head. Guest guest
Actually, my blood pressure has always been low, even in the doctors office. Just checked and it's 100 over 60. My mom has a monitor here that we are using on her daily and I just used it. It was higher about two days ago when I did it then but not by much. This has been going on for quite a few months and it's getting worse. I'm going to really start paying attention to this and trying some things to see what results I get. I've started with the Budwig Protocol today along with my Mom and am going to make us both some ozonated water tomorrow. Also, I used cayenne in my soup today and will continue to add it to everything that I can to see if that helps with the blood pressure issues.
