Guest guest
I do not know if you know about the controversy concerning the American Psychiatric Association and their bible of Mental and Developmental Disorders called the DSM 5. The DSM 5 is supposed to be published in the spring of 2013. The DSM 5 proposes to eliminate Aspergers Syndrome and PDD-NOS and roll them into Autism Spectrum Disorders. They also are proposing on tightening up the criteria for Autism Spectrum disorder affecting some high and low functioning individuals. They might not qualify for the diagnosis. This has been featured on several media outlets. We are trying to get parents to voice their opinions at apa@... or dsm5@... . The APA has already gotten over 10,000 e-mails from concerned parents. A petition has been created by GRASP asking the APA to go back to the DSM IV criteria. If you would read the petition and consider signing it. A link to the petition is below: http://www.change.org/petitions/dsm-5-committee-dont-reduce-the-criteria-for-an-autism-spectrum-condition-in-the-dsm-5 Please consider forwarding on this e-mail to any parents or parent groups that might be interested. Thank you, Mitch Silvers.
